Since 1904, no one has represented the nine-county Judicial District 5B as president of the Iowa State Bar Association – until now. Creston native Arnold “Skip” Kenyon was recently appointed president. Skip becomes the first person in more than a century from District 5B to reign as president and the first person ever from Union County to hold the honor. With renovations to Pole Road completed, the next county project on the list is Osage Street. However, plans for the project are still being written. “We’re probably just going to do a little bit (of Osage Street) at a time,” said Steve Akes, Union County engineer. “We may not get it all done this year.” The road, which hasn’t been rejuvenated in 20 years, will be narrowed and reshaped to prevent water pooling. The ditches will be cleaned up, which will also

in June, becoming the first person from Judicial District 5B in more than a century and the first person from Union County to hold the honor.

Work on the road in the past 20 years mostly consisted of laying rock, but grading the road can cost tens of thousands of dollars and has been avoided. Heavy travel on the road is one of the reasons for its current condition, as well as weather. “Those highly traveled roads, yeah, they are pretty bad,” said Ron Riley, Union County Supervisors board president. “Part of the reason, too, is because that road is too wide. That road is, in places, 30 to 31 feet wide, and ideally they should be 24 to 26 feet wide.” ROADS | 2A
