Party in the Park to be held June 24

The 11th annual Party in the Park will be held Saturday, June 24, and features three popular tribute bands. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the gate and can be purchased at Creston News Advertiser, Hy-Vee, Stalker Chevrolet, A & G Restaurant and Lounge, Jane Brown PT, Osceola Sentinel-Tribune, and Rumors in Mount Ayr. Gates open 6 p.m. June 24, with music beginning at 7 p.m., which is a later start than in years past. “We’re starting later this year and going to finish later,” said Creston Parks and Recreation Board Member John Kawa. “We’re going to try to stay away from the

heat as much as we can. It seems like in y e a r s p a s t , people w e r e n ’ t Kawa ready to go home when the bands were done, so we’re going to start a little later and stay a little later.”

Iowa’s new governor intends to run in 2018, release says DES MOINES (AP) — Kim Reynolds has made it semiofficial: She intends to run for governor of Iowa next year. Reynolds ascended to the governor’s c h a i r from her post as lieutenant governor last m o n t h , Reynolds replacing Terry Branstad after his confirmation as U.S. ambassador to China. She’d been widely expected to run but had yet to make a formal announcement. A news release from her

campaign organization said this Thursday: “The Governor and Lt. Governor intend to be candidates for Governor and Lt. Governor in 2018. A final decision and formal announcement will be made in the coming months.” Her running mate would be the state’s acting lieutenant governor, Adam Gregg. She named him to replace her but only in an “acting” capacity in order to avoid any legal fight over her power. Reynolds is originally from Clarke County, having attended Interstate 35 Schools and working in the Clarke County Treasurer’s Office.
