About 60 people attended a Flag Day ceremony at Creston Elks Lodge #605 Sunday afternoon. Flag Day is celebrated each year to commemorate the adoption of the flag of the United States, which happened on June 14, 1777, by resolution from the Second Continental Congress. The day also promotes patriotism, respect for the flag and love of country. “Our flag has been through many wars,” said Dennis Nelson with Creston Elks Lodge. “It’s been tattered and torn, but it still stands strong. Elks have always celebrated the birth of the flag and especially want to honor those who defend the flag.” The ceremony Sun-

The Elm’s Club restaurant in Creston will be closed today after a fire inside a clothes dryer in the basement caused smoke damage throughout the building. According to a Creston Fire Department report, firefighters responded to the fire at the Elm’s Club, 108 N. Elm St., 1:22 a.m. today. Upon arrival, they found a small fire inside of a clothes dryer in the basement. The

Upper Crust Culinary Creations in Creston and Your Life Fitness of Lenox have applied for a $100,000 grant from Chase’s, Mission Main Street Grants. Through Mission Main Street Grants, Chase will award $2 million to 20 small businesses across America and a trip to LinkedIn headquarters. Demonstrating an ongoing commitment to small business, Chase launched Mission Main Street Grants, a program that will award 20 grants of $100,000 to small businesses across America. By completing

They also provided a free lunch for all veterans prior to the ceremony.

Gus King, Elm’s Club co-owner, said the fire was due to a dryer that didn’t shut off and ran all night. He said he is waiting to see what the extent of the damages is to determine what needs to be done next and to determine how long the Elm’s Club will be closed.
