Council agrees to renew Amtrak lease in restored Depot

1 dead, 2 injured after Lenox accident LENOX — One person is dead and two are injured after an accident 6:50 p.m. Monday near Lenox. According to Taylor County Sheriff and Iowa State Patrol reports, Zachary Edward Marxen, 19, of Lenox, driving a 2010 Ford north on Yellowstone Avenue north of County Road J13, collided nearly head on at the crest of a hill with a 2016 Cub Cadet utility task vehicle (UTV) on the roadway driven by Braxston Bradley, 10, of Prescott. City Council voted to approve a new, 20-year lease for Amtrak at the restored depot. The decision comes after extended negotiations and discussion spanning back a few years. With the updated lease, Amtrak will be funding building improvements as well. Those improvement are not expected until the spring of 2018, but no time-

table is officially set. City Administrator Mike Taylor was pleased the lease was finally agreed upon. “The city is going to get some good benefit out of it,” said Taylor. Much of the discussion revolved around the city being able to get out of the lease agreement if Amtrak couldn’t keep its promises. Amtrak agreed to pay for staff, janitorial work and repair work on the building. Another point of con-
