number of memorial funds. “We have a lot of local people who give money to our students,” Bolinger said. “Dollars for Scholars is a big one. There’s some big memorial scholarships that people give out. We had another local scholarship this year that was new, but I believe it’s going to be every year. It was $6,000 – three $2,000 scholarships – available just to our school.” In addition to local scholarships, Creston seniors racked up numerous school-specific scholarships to the colleges of their choice. Alli Thomsen received a full-ride scholarship to Grand View University that totaled more than $100,000. Angela Sorensen, who will attend New York University in the fall, received a $96,000 scholarship to the school. “It was amazing,” she said. “I was just so excited, because tuition is just really costly anyway and that just really helped us make my final decision on being able to attend.”

I think it was a little disappointing for some, but I think there’s been some good scholarships given this year.” Scholarships handed out Friday ranged from $100 all the way up to more than $100,000. The scholarship is worth between $3,000 and $4,000 each semester and, over the course of four years, totals $15,000. “I had to write an essay and get a letter of recom-
