Volunteers who put together meals this week for Meals from the Heartland will help provide for families both locally and across the world. For the fourth year, Meals from the Heartland will be hosted by Southwestern Community College (SWCC) as part of the college’s Pay it Forward (PIF) week. PIF is this week, and Meals from the Heartland will be 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday in the Student Center gymnasium. “There will be a set amount of meals that are going to stay in the local community, then the state of Iowa next, then the Midwest, and then if there are meals remaining, they go Kulow to different countries,” said Beth Kulow, SWCC dean of student services. Meals from the Heartland aims to provide nutrition-packed meals that can satisfy people of all cultures. The program offers two types of meals – rice and soy, which is distributed globally, and macaroni and cheese, which is distributed domestically. One meal can feed a family of six. Through Meals From the Heartland’s partnerships, packaged meals have fed more than 22 million hungry people in Iowa as well as in
