The city of Creston will accept bids from contractors for the West Adams Street improvement project after the Creston City Council unanimously resolved to set a deadline for bids during Tuesday’s regular meeting. Austin Smith, professional engineer with Garden and Associates, updated the city council on the project during the meeting. “We’ll send this thing out to bidders next week,” Smith said. “Final plans and specs will be reviewed internally. Usually, we try to get it in the contractor’s hands four to five weeks in advance so contractors can take a look at the plans and specs, get quotes, ask any questions that need to be asked and hopefully we’ll have some competitive bids come in.”

intersection will be changed to a T-intersection. “We’re picking up at that T-intersection after the bridge and carrying it to Park Street,” Smith said. The section of West Adams Street between Lake Shore Drive and McKinley Street will be 24-feet-wide pavement with 2-feet-wide
shoulders, carrying on the proposed pavement section from the T-intersection. Then, West Adams Street from McKinley Street to Park Street will be 31-feetwide pavement with curb and gutter. Additionally, a sidewalk CITY | 2A
Dakota Access opponents urge action as Army consent looms BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — Opponents of the Dakota Access oil pipeline called for protests around the world Wednesday as the Army prepared to greenlight the final stage of the $3.8 billion project’s construction. The Army said Tuesday that it will allow the fourstate pipeline to cross under a Missouri River reservoir in
North Dakota, the last big chunk of construction. The Standing Rock Sioux, which has led the battle against the project for months, promised to fight the development in court. The Army’s permission could come as early as Wednesday. The Justice Department PIPELINE | 2A
Senate GOP silences Warren over criticism of Sessions WASHINGTON (AP) — Senate Republicans silenced Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren for criticizing colleague and Attorney General-nominee Jeff Sessions with the words of Coretta Scott King from three decades ago challenging his record on race. Warren, whose name has
been prominent in speculation about the 2020 presidential race, was given a rare Senate rebuke Tuesday night for impugning a fellow senator and she was barred from saying anything more on the Senate floor about Sessions, R-Ala. SENATE | 2A
