LIBERTY, Mo. – Staff Sgt. Tim McIntosh went 10 1/2 months without seeing his family while he was deployed in Mihail Kogalniceanu, Romania. Just in time for the holidays, Tim, a 2000 graduate of Creston High School and son of Tim McIntosh and Lynne McIntosh, both of Creston, returned home and surprised his oldest son, Kirk, at Lillian Schumacher Elementary School in Liberty, Missouri, Wednesday afternoon. After spending nearly a year in Romania doing various trainings on the NATO base with his 323rd Engineer Detachment Firefighters out of Hutchinson, Kansas, it took a meticulously organized plan to reunite Tim with his family – wife, Randi, and sons, 8-year-old Kirk and 2-year-old Fletcher. “It’s a great relief. I’ve missed so many birthdays, anniversaries, other holidays. This one, it just brings

everything together where I can celebrate Christmas with them,” Tim said in an interview with the Creston News Advertiser Thursday. “This is probably the biggest holiday where all the family comes together. I’m just glad I can be part of this and not experience it through Skype or FaceTime. I can see their excitement, feel their excitement and be part of it.” Kirk, a third grader, and his classmates were busy do-
ing Christmas crafts as part of the school’s Christmas party Wednesday afternoon. KMBC in Kansas City captured the moment on camera. In the news station’s video package that aired on TV, Kirk is seen telling KMBC Reporter Taisha Walker that his Christmas wish is for his dad to be home. That’s when Tim walked into the classroom and spotted Kirk wearing one of Tim’s Army firefighting shirts.
As Tim entered the room, he’s heard on camera saying, “That’s a nice shirt.” Kirk looked up from his activity and paused for a brief moment before yelling, “Dad!” and running toward Tim, jumping into his arms. “It took him a second to recognize it was me, and he took off running and almost knocked me over,” Tim recalled. “I wasn’t quite sure how he was going to express HOME | 2A

DES MOINES (AP) — Clean Line Energy Partners is withdrawing its Iowa application to build a power transmission line across part of the state as it awaits resolution of an Illinois court challenge. Officials for Houston-based Clean Line said Thursday their decision was informed by the timing of the Illinois case and a schedule set by the Iowa Utilities Board. Clean Line wants to
build a 500-mile line from northwest Iowa across into Illinois, delivering 3,500 megawatts of power to Illinois and states farther east. Illinois regulators approved the project in 2014, but a state appellate court reversed that decision in August and the Illinois Supreme Court has agreed to review the case. Clean Line said it will decide on renewing its Iowa filing after the Illinois high court rules.
