MOUNT AYR — In Ringgold County, five people are running for two positions on the Ringgold County Board of Supervisors in the upcoming general election Nov. 8. Incumbents Kraig Pennington and Royce A. Dredge are running against Kurt Shaha, Lyle E. Minnick and Lizzie Jeanes Hanawalt. Ringgold County Sheriff Mike Sobotka is also running contested against Jamie Miller for the position of sheriff.

County Board of Supervisors Kraig Pennington Pennington, 52, lives in Mount Ayr. He graduated in 1982 from Abraham Lincoln High School in Des Moines before attending college. In 1984, he joined the National Guard, and in 1986, he joined the United States Army active service. When he retired in 2006, he was first sergeant. Pennington, a Republican, is a farmer, works for Sickels Dozing in Mount Ayr and has been a Ringgold County

supervisor since 2013. “Four years ago, our county road infrastructure, I felt, needed some work. We’ve done a lot these four years for improving our infrastructure,” Pennington said about running in his first supervisors election. “I want to continue seeing our infrastructure improve.” Pennington said the current board has done well to improve the county budget and wants to see Ringgold County get to the point of having a balanced budget without raising taxes. “I believe that right now we just need to continue where we’re at and spend our money more efficiently,” Pennington said. “Every decision I make, I try to keep everyone in the county in mind.” Kurt Shaha Shaha, 59, lives in rural Mount Ayr. He’s a 1975 graduate of Mount Ayr High School and earned an associate’s degree from Southwestern Community College in 1977.
