Townline St., said the business will be closed for the holiday 4 p.m. Wednesday, stay closed Thanksgiving, and open Friday 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. “There’s toy items, all kinds of hardware-type items for sale,” Sinn said. “There’s anything from 35 to 50 percent savings on individual items.”
One particular item Sinn said is on sale is a drill driver. “We’ve got a DeWalt 20-volt lithium drill driver, with two batteries, a case and a charger for $99.99, which is a very hot price,” Sinn said. A noteworthy sales pitch for items at True Value is 50 percent off any one non-sale item $50 or less with a coupon. Family Shoe Store Family Shoe Store, located at 219 W. An estimated 30 million green bean casseroles will appear on dinner tables this Thanksgiving, according to a recent study by Del Monte Foods. And, in a recent nationwide survey of 1,500 people, Iowa ranked number 4 in its love of the savory side dish. Kentucky, Wisconsin and Missouri all carried a narrow lead over Iowa and placed first, second and third in their residents consumption of green bean casserole. Green bean casserole is traditionally made of layers of green beans, cream of mushroom soup and Frenchfried onions. Recipes and Del Monte everyone from grandmas to Emeril Lagasse and Alton Brown seem to have their favorite. Cynthia Wolf, co-owner of Upper Crust Culinary Creations, is no exception. She prepares green bean casserole annually for her family’s Thanksgiving gathering with her own special ingredient, which adds a bit of extra texture. “I add extra mushrooms,” Wolf said. “Sometimes I add cheese. The in-laws love it.” What is your favorite secret ingredient? Del Monte’s research concluded that bacon was ranked first at 37 percent, followed

Then, in a nine by 13 inch pan, layer undrained green beans, cream of mushroom soup, top with French-fried onions and bake for 30 minutes or until heated through.
by cheese (19 percent), mushrooms (15 percent), bread crumbs, croutons or crushed crackers (12 percent), and almonds (8 percent). Some online food forums also show high praises for add-ins, such as crispy shallots, caramelized pearl on-
ions, or sliced potatoes. But, if you are a purist or looking for a side dish which takes five to ten minutes to prepare, stick to traditional methods. Wolf insists, any way you decide to make it, it’s easy. “There’s no secret, you just dump.”

FERGUSON, Mo. (AP) — Attorneys for Michael Brown’s family vowed Tuesday to push for federal charges against the police officer who killed the unarmed 18-year-old, and they renewed calls for peace following a night of violent protests in which several businesses burned to the ground. As darkness fell, hundreds more National Guardsmen were ordered into Ferguson in hopes that their presence would help local law enforcement keep order in the St. Louis suburb. The attorneys said the grand jury process was rigged from the start to clear the white officer, Darren Wilson, in the Aug. 9 shooting death of Brown, who was black. They criticized everything from the evidence the St. Louis County prosecutor presented to the jury to the way it
was presented, as well as the timing of the announcement of the grand jury’s final decision. “We said from the very beginning that the decision of this grand jury was going to be the direct reflection of the presentation of the evidence by the prosecutor’s office,” attorney Anthony Gray said. He suggested the county’s top prosecutor, Bob McCulloch, presented some testimony to discredit the process, including from witnesses who did not see the shooting. They hope a federal civil rights investigation results in charges against Wilson. Twelve commercial buildings in Ferguson burned down during protests that erupted after the grand jury’s decision Please see FERGUSON, Page 2
