No injuries after weekend airplane accident By KYLE WILSON

CNA managing editor kwilson@crestonnews.com

No injuries are being reported after an airplane accident at Creston Municipal Airport over the weekend. Larry West, manager at the airport, said the incident occured around 2 p.m. Sunday when a pilot from Fort Dodge attempted to land his Piper Colt airplane in windy conditions. “He landed the plane,” West said, “but the crosswind on the runway can cause problems for an inexperienced pilot. It flipped on its top and rolled out a long ways.”

West could not confirm the name of the pilot this morning. However, the plane is registered to Lee Phillips of Fort Dodge. West did say this particular Piper Colt was probably made in the 1950s and that the plane did sustain serious damage to its nose and one wing. The plane has been “tied down” at the airport, and an insurance company has been notified. West said this isn’t totally uncommon. He said, in his 12 years as manager, there have been six plane incidents at Creston Municipal Airport. None resulted in death and the cause is usually a combination of high winds and lightweight airplanes.
