St. Malachy Christian School kicked off National Bullying Prevention Month Monday morning with a speaker who talked about the ways bullying affected him throughout his life. Bobby Jones, of Bobby Jones Speaks, addressed students from kindergarten all the way through eighth grade about the experiences in his life and how to “turn pain into purpose.” Jones is an inspirational speaker and faith-based hip-hop artist who has traveled all over the United States and Europe talking about his life experiences. At a towering 6 feet 4 inches, Jones normally talks to middle school and high school-age students, but adjusted his usual story to make it appropriate for a younger audience. “Today (Monday) was an exception talking to the younger kids. It was fitting for what they probably can receive so it was good to be able to touch on those subjects as well,” said Jones. “Normally it’s about choices, consequences and where talent will take you but character won’t keep you.”

When it came to his talk to the middle schoolers, Jones opened up more about his experiences and his struggles before going into public speaking. The former college lineman discussed his battles with bullying, self-worth and al-

New traffic controls in the form of stop signs and reduced speed limit will be introduced on 190th Street east of Afton after the Union County Board of Supervisors approved the change in a 2-1 vote. Also called School Road, this 1 1/2 mile long segment of rock road in question underwent heavy maintenance and reshaping over the summer in preparation for school-year traffic. Recent additional safety concerns have been raised by the public, however, with special regard to an underpass that the road segment uses to cross un-
derneath the railroad that runs parallel to Highway 169. The underpass is 24 feet wide, and, though Union County Engineer Zach Gunsolley explains it is wide enough for two cars to pass, safety in icy winter conditions may still be an issue. “That is wide enough for two cars to pass,” s a i d Gunsolley. “It’s just that psychologically, when Gunsolley you’re meeting someone in such COUNTY | 2A
