Jeanné Willerth. The family was passing through Creston after spending a couple of days at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., where the daughter received the treatments she needed. The family declined to give their names or details about the daughter’s condition, but said they have been doing treatments in Minnesota every three months for the past three years and “are so thankful for Angel Flight.”

The exchange didn’t take long. An 11-year-old girl from Lamar, Mo., and her mother hopped out of a plane Tuesday afternoon at Creston Municipal Airport and stayed just long enough to eat a 6-inch Subway sandwich before heading home on another Angel Flight with pilot
Angel Flight is a non-profit charitable organization of pilots, volunteers and friends who arrange for free air transportation for any legitimate, charitable, medically-related need. Angel Flight also arranges transportation for those who are financially distressed, or who are in a time-critical, non-emergency situation because of their medical condition. This was Willerth’s third
time transporting the family. Willerth is the sister of Gay Lynn Owens of Creston, and was inspired to volunteer for Angel Flights because both of her parents were pilots and her father — now 91 years old — used to fly burn patients to Shriner’s hospitals. “I’m just carrying on what he did,” Willerth said. Creston and Prescott Superintendent Steve McDermott explained a memo written to describe the decision to discuss the consolidation, dating back to July 2013, to six local citizens during the information session. “The two boards discussed McDermott this beginning in July 2013,” McDermott said. “The (Prescott) board has had discussions with other boards, and it appears to Prescott that Creston is the best option.” According to the Creston board memo, “the Creston board traveled over to meet with the Prescott board to talk about potential sharing or consolidation ideas, and the meeting was very productive.” Creston and Prescott share Business Manager Billie Jo Green and a teacher, as well as superintendent. Both Creston and Prescott school boards plan to hold informational sessions before regularly
