Lenox and Southwest Valley high schools are regrouping and moving forward after threats to the schools two weeks ago. Lenox High School had Taylor County Sheriff officers present at the school

Monday, Oct. 16, because of a threatening note Friday, Oct. 13. A meeting was held with the student body to reassure students of their safety and give them the opportunity to ask questions regarding the threatening note situation. Students were encouraged to speak with staff members if they felt upset, alone or angry.

“Communicating those emotions is the first step in resolving them safely,” Lenox High School Principal Mike Still said. Still was pleased with the safety procedure they used on Friday, Oct. 13, and said the safety procedure plan has since been reviewed and will stay the same. To maintain the safety of the students and faculty, the

school remains locked from 8:15 a.m. until 3:20 p.m. The school district is still working with the Tayor County Sheriff’s Department conducting interviews and watching video footage of the school. Southwest Valley High School Superintendent SAFETY | 2A

US general lays out Niger attack details; questions remain WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. special forces unit ambushed by Islamic militants in Niger didn’t call for help until an hour into their first contact with the enemy, the top U.S. general said Monday, as he tried to

clear up some of the murky details of the assault that killed four American troops and has triggered a nasty political brawl. Marine Gen. Joseph Dunford, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told

reporters that the American people and the fallen soldiers’ families deserve answers about the deadly ambush in the west African nation. But he said he still lacks many of the details about how the attack

unfolded, and he asked for patience as the military investigation continues. Dunford’s description of the incident, however, underscored how long the NIGER | 2A

The Creston News Advertiser launched a new website Monday morning. Online readers will notice a cleaner, more modern look to the website. Readers who visit the website on mobile devices will also experience a more user-friendly website than the CNA’s previous website. Visitors can experience the new CNA website for free until Nov. 1, when access to the website becomes a paid feature included with a subscription. The new website no longer features pop-up videos

slowing down load times. Visitors on mobile devices can swipe left through multiple photos in a story, while visitors on computers can click on a photo in a story and drag it to the right or left to view more photos. Stories also flow from one story to the next, so as visitors finish reading one story, the next story in that category will begin. Under the sections tab at the top of the new website, visitors can find the new pages for the Fontanelle Observer and Adair County Free Press.

Official says building fire killed thousands of chickens CHARLES CITY (AP) — Authorities say firefighters from at least eight departments responded to a blaze that heavily damaged a building at an egg facility on the west side of Charles City in northern Iowa. Firetrucks were dispatched a little before 5 p.m. Monday, and their crews remained at the Zoetis (zoh-EH’-tis) facility until nearly 11 p.m. Charles City firefighters returned around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday to handle a flare-up

and some hot spots. One firefighter suffered a minor leg injury. Zoetis spokesman Bill Price said Tuesday from the company headquarters in Parsippany, New Jersey, that no employees of the animal health company were injured. He says several thousand chickens that produced eggs for vaccine manufacture were killed. Charles City Fire Chief Eric Whipple says an arcing electrical wire started the fire.
