“I’ve been here for seven years and I wanted to do something for people in the community.” Joe Anson, owner of Steel Curtain Construction decided it was time for him to give back to the community of Creston. It didn’t take long for Anson to gather ideas on what he should do. After posting on Facebook of his intent on July 21, Anson found anywhere between 15 and 20 suggestions of ANSON | 2A

Iowa elections office fixes errors on signature requirements IOWA CITY (AP) — Iowa Secretary of State Paul Pate’s office has corrected multiple errors in its guidance on the number of signatures that some Congressional candidates must gather to get on the ballot. For months, the office’s website misinformed potential candidates in Districts 2 and 3 about minimum signature requirements. Democrats in District 2 were told that they needed at least 1,864 signatures to qualify for the June pri-
mary ballot and Republicans were told they needed 1,708. Those numbers should have been reversed. In District 3, Republicans were told that they needed 1,710 signatures. They actually need 1,930. Office spokesman Kevin Hall says the errors were corrected last week after they were pointed out by The Associated Press. He says letters are being sent to the parties informing them of the correct totals. The filing period runs from Feb. 26 to March 16.
Impersonator in chief Baldwin headlines Iowa Democrats event DES MOINES (AP) — Strange as it seems, Iowa Democrats can expect to see Donald Trump at the state party’s annual marquee fundraiser next month. That is, in the form of actor Alec Baldwin, the walking parody of the Republican president. The actor who received an Emmy award last month for his running parody of Trump on Saturday Night Live is to be the keynote speaker at
the state party banquet in Des Moines on Nov. 27. It’s a role often reserved for presidential prospects in the leadoff presidential caucus state. Whether or not Baldwin entertains the light-hearted urgings of former President Bill Clinton to run for president, Baldwin should certainly expect an audience hungry for lifted spirits. BALDWIN | 2A

CROP Walk: Participants in the 31st annual interfaith Union County CROP Hunger Walk set
off from the gazebo at Greater Regional Medical Center early Sunday afternoon. The event raised money in an effort to end hunger in Union County, the country and around the world. Forty-two walkers enjoyed the warm autumn day, and Lynne Schlaht, CROP Walk treasurer, reported $4,789.86 was turned in by nine area churches and others who attended. Several churches have yet to report.
