Creston City Council approved payment for a new pro forma based on Iowa State University’s hotel feasibility study to be conducted, providing those companies with more detailed data. A new pro forma based on a hotel feasibility study will be conducted after Creston City Council unanimously approved spending up to $1,500 to obtain more accurate data. A hotel feasibility study was conducted by Iowa State University in Ames during the spring and summer and information from that study was released in the fall. One reason the city is having a more accurate pro forma done is because

investors want to see what the return on their investment will look like. The Iowa State study was done after Union County Development Association approached the city council because there had been some interest in bringing a new hotel to the area. All of the interested parties inquired if the city had the feasibility study done. After city council discussion, Iowa State University was awarded the bid for the study. Iowa State brought researchers to Creston to collect data. “We had different representation from across

Japan PM pledges ‘unchanging’ allegiance to US under Trump TOKYO (AP) — Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said Friday that he plans to visit the U.S. as soon as possible to meet with incoming U.S. President Donald Trump. Speaking on the eve of Trump’s inauguration, he called the U.S.-Japan alliance an “unchanging principle” for his country’s foreign

and security policy. His urgency to meet Trump reflects worries in Japan about how Trump’s “America first” policy will affect U.S. commitments to the Asia region, as well as fallout from any heightened tensions with China and North Korea. JAPAN | 2A

Pantini said there has been interest from several different franchises over the past 6-8 months in seeing what the report says. The city received two bids for $1,500 to conduct

the more accurate pro forma. “These companies are in the hotel business, where Iowa State may do various projects,” City Administrator Mike Taylor said during Tuesday’s council meeting. “They’re going to deal with the construction cost for a hotel. Some of that in- Taylor formation is in the Iowa State study. But,

WASHINGTON (AP) — Following the path of inaugurations past, Donald Trump and Barack Obama rode together to the U.S. Capitol Friday as the real estate mogul and reality TV star who upended American politics prepared to be sworn in as the 45th president of the United States. His ascent puts Republicans in control of the White House for the first time in eight years. “It all begins today!” Trump tweeted at daybreak, before attending a morning church service with his family. “THE MOVEMENT CONTINUES THE WORK BEGINS!” At midmorning, Trump and his wife, Melania, stopped by the White House for the traditional private meeting of outgoing and in-

coming presidents and their spouses. Posing for photos on the North Portico, the couples exchanged hugs as Barack Obama chatted about the demands of protocol. People flocked to the nation’s capital for the inaugural festivities, some wearing red hats emblazoned with Trump’s “Make America Great Again” campaign slogan. But in a sign of the deep divisions Trump sowed during his combative campaign, dozens of Democratic lawmakers were boycotting the swearing-in ceremony on Capitol Hill. People were lined up at security checkpoints before dawn to take their places in this quadrennial rite of democracy. “I’m here for history,” CAPITOL | 2A
