Thursday is the final day to file nomination papers with Union County Auditor’s office to run for open city council seats in the upcoming elections in Creston, Afton, Arispe, Lorimor and Thayer. There are five open seats in Creston including mayor and ward 2, ward 3, ward 4 and at-large on the Creston City Council. Woods defeated Lybarger by 34 votes in 2012. “I’ve learned a lot the past two years as councilman,” Lybarger said. “I think the people know me

The 59-year-old Vandenberg is semi-retired. He was a paramedic with Greater Regional Medical Center for 11 years until 2011. “Mayor Woods has been in there for eight years,” Vandenberg said. “Maybe it’s time for some new blood. I know we need to do something with our streets and a few other things have caught my attention recently. Sprucing up the town wouldn’t hurt.” The News Advertiser will have profiles on each Please see CITY ELECTIONS, Page 2
