Ridgely named new superintendent at EU By IAN RICHARDSON

CNA staff reporter irichardson@crestonnews.com

AFTON — The search has ended. Lance Ridgely, curriculum director at Clarke Community Schools in Osceola, accepted the position of East Union Community School District superintendent Tuesday night, bringing an end to a superintendent search process that began in late April. On July 1, Ridgely will step into

the position held since 2008 by current superintendent Pam Vogel, whose last official day will be June 30. The East Union School Ridgely Board made the decision during a work session Tuesday, in which it discussed the three finalists for the position with the superintendent search firm

Leadership Associates. Mark Weis, EU high school principal, who had input in the search process along with elementary principal Joan Gordon and early childhood director Hope Hall, said the team all agreed Ridgely was the right person for the job. “He’s a very personable individual. He basically has a plan in place of what he would do in the first 90 days,” Weis said. “I think he was a candidate that everyone

all the way around felt was a good fit for East Union.” Board president Brett Weis said Ridgely’s academic experience and his community-mindedness were major qualities the board was looking for. “He definitely wants to get to know the community,” he said. “He wants to get to know the kids and parents. He’s made it clear that he wants to be in the community to get to know everybody and be around a lot.”

Brett Weis said he was impressed at how smoothly the superintendent search went. “Leadership Associates did an excellent job as far as helping us out and taking us through the process,” he said. “This was my first superintendent search, but we had two others on the board that had been on it before, and they were impressed.” Please see RIDGELY, Page 2A

AFTON — A custodian at East Union School District collapsed and later died on school grounds 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. Cause of death has not been determined officially at this time. Dennis Chenoweth, 55, of Afton was a custodian and bus driver at the school district for one year. “He was a good guy and hard worker,” said Mark Weis, principal at East Union. “Our con-

dolences go out to his family.” First responders said survellience video footage shows that Chenoweth collapsed around 3:45 p.m. inside the new elementary at the school and was not found until about 4:15 p.m. by the head custodian. EMT’s did perform cardiopulmnary resuscitation (CPR) on Chenoweth at that time, but he could not be revived. There were no students at the scene of this incident Tuesday as school is out for the summer. Services are pending for Chenoweth at Powers Funeral Home in Afton.

GRMC moving to new medical record system Greater Regional Medical Center and Greater Regional Medical Clinics will transfer to the same electronic medical record system used across the entire UnityPoint Health system on June 28 and 29, respectively. Greater Regional has been planning the transition the past several months. The transition will benefit both health care providers and patients, as providers can now quickly compile and view patient infor-

mation in one place, resulting in better, more comprehensive care for patients. “Having the same electronic documentation at both the hos- Neitzel pital and clinic level allows for better communication among health care providers, ensuring

consistent, improved care for patients in whatever setting they might be,” said Monte Neitzel, CEO at Greater Regional. “Our physicians and health care team are committed to advancing our technology to allow advanced care and communications with our patients. In addition, we are pleased to be joining the electronic health record platform shared by the affiliates of UnityPoint Health.” This advancement in technology

will improve patient care by providing: • Current medical information at the providers’ fingertips no matter which UnityPoint Health hospital or clinic the patient is receiving care. • Better coordinated care – Health information will be more efficiently shared between patients’ UnityPoint Heath providers and hospitals that are involved in their care.

• Additional safety and security features for their medical record. Another feature of the new electronic health record is a new patient portal — a free, privacy-protected website and mobile app for patients and care givers. It helps patients keep track of their personal medical history and test results. Individuals already enrolled in the Please see GRMC, Page 2A
