Environmental Defenders of McHenry County

Since 1970, the Environmental Defenders of McHenry County have had many successes in helping to make McHenry County a healthier place in which to live. From the formation of the McHenry County Conservation District to curbside recycling, from the regulation of gravel mining to the passage of the Illinois Groundwater Protection Act, the Defenders have been at the front line, working closely with local, municipal, and county government while advocating for a healthy environment. https://mcdef.org/

Food Shed Coop

The Food Shed Cooperative’s purpose is to operate a cooperatively owned grocery store that provides groceries and other consumer goods and services to its member owners and other patrons. The Cooperative’s mission includes providing access to affordable, healthy, locally produced food, fostering sustainable agriculture, and contributing to the economic and cultural vibrancy of the McHenry County, Illinois community. Crystal Lake Sustainability Committee

The City of Crystal Lake Sustainability Committee provides short-term, long-term, and cost-effective goals for the City of Crystal Lake to become more sustainable. Council about implementing projects, policies, programs, and initiatives • Spread awareness on environmental issues at local events • Attend presentations from businesses, advocacy groups, and other sustainabilityrelated associations to learn about potential opportunities for the City • Recruit and maintain a list of volunteers willing to lend their time and effort to implement the Committee’s recommended short and long-term goals • Coordinate the use of volunteers, when appropriate, to oversee projects approved by the Sustainability Committee, City staff, and the City Council • Assist City departments in an effort to encourage, where possible and within budget parameters, the adoption of environmentally sustainable practices
