Badger operators agreed to a court-ordered deadline to end the ash dumping at the end of the 2014 sailing season, two years longer than had been agreed under an earlier agreement. Meanwhile the Badger investors are attempting to continue this toxic practice by seeking protections as a National Historic Landmark. U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin, an Illinois Democrat and assistant Senate Majority Leader, is leading the fight to end this poisonous practice. As a lifelong resident and concerned citizen of the Berwyn/ Stickney area, I am appealing to my Congressman, Daniel Lipinski, to join the opposition to stop any legislative and administrative efforts to continue this unhealthy practice.
