According to statistics by the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT), so far this year, 11 people have died in Iowa work zones. Of those 11 people, all were motorists. While the majority of these recent deaths occurred on Iowa interstates, some local administrators push safety as key when it comes to work zones in the area. “It could be potentially serious,” said Union County Board of Supervisors President Ron Riley. “I think people need to obey the ‘road closed’ signs and try to take another route.”

He was flown to an Iowa City hospital for treatment. Harris and Horsley still faces several state charges related to the shooting. DES MOINES (AP) — The board that oversees Iowa’s three public universities says it wants to use a new two-year budget system that would include some tuition increases. The Iowa Board of Regents announced Tuesday it wants the Legislature to support a

plan that would increase state funding to the universities by two percent each year for the budget years that end in 2018 and 2019. Additional money would go to the University of Northern Iowa in the first year. BUDGET | 2A

Creston Hy-Vee customer to win 2016 Ford F-150 By KELSEY HAUGEN CNA associate editor khaugen@crestonnews.com

Now through Nov. 13, those who shop at Creston Hy-Vee and swipe their HyVee Fuel Saver Plus Perks card will have the chance to win a red 2016 Ford F-150 with four-wheel drive. “The purpose is to create some excitement and give somebody in our area a really cool prize,” said Jeremy Odem, Creston Hy-Vee store director. “We do a lot of giveaways throughout the year, whether it’s through our Facebook or through our

fuel-saver card, and nothing matches up to a truck, right? So, it’s a pretty neat giveaway to say that somebody shopping at this location, one of our customers, is going to walk away with a brand-new Ford F-150.” Each swipe of a customer’s Fuel Saver + Perks card, which is free to sign up for, equals one entry. So, frequent Hy-Vee shoppers will earn more entries into the contest. On Saturdays, customers swiping their cards receive double entries. Hy-Vee purchased the TRUCK | 2A
