BY GOLDIE RAPP grapp@bcrnews.com PRINCETON — Sketches of the vision for streetscape improvements from Interstate 80 to the courthouse square were shared Wednesday night with the Princeton City Council. The steering committee for Princeton’s Main Street Revitalization Plan showed its preliminary plans during a special meeting of the city council. Scott Mehaffey, landscape architect, also shared ideas to improve parks, create bicycle paths, restore ghost signs, plan public art programs, and much more.

The goal is to draw tourists and lure more people to live in Princeton by improving the quality of life. Mehaffey pointed out the city’s median household income has declined, and poverty rates increased over the years. “We’re heading in the wrong direction,” he said. He said Princeton is Bureau County’s last holdout to offer people a place to shop, and showed photos of surrounding towns that have “dried up” and now offer little or no shopping or entertainment options.
