Mautino’s win is official ‘I look forward to working to keep all of our area moving forward.’ By Zita Henneberry zhenneberry@bcrnews.com

Rep. Frank Mautino has officially won his seat in the Illinois House of Representatives. The tallies are now official on the Illinois State Board of Elections website. Mautino, a Democrat from

Spring Valley, beat out the Republican candidate, Jerry Long, by 337 votes. In the entire 76th District, which includes Bureau, Putnam, LaSalle and Livingston counties, the final count had Mautino with 17,409 votes and Long with 17072 votes.

Thursday, Mautino said he was not surprised by the results, and he is excited to begin his new session as an Illinois State Representative. “I’m thankful for the faith and support that the people of LaSalle and Bureau and Putnam counties showed in the past

election, I look forward to working to keep all of our area moving forward,” said Mautino. In Bureau County Mautino beat out Long 2,814 to 1,771. LaSalle and Livingston went to Long with 13,787 votes to Mautino’s 13,007 in LaSalle, and Long’s 343 to Mautino’s 188 votes in Livingston. However, Mautino took the win in Putnam with 1,400 votes to Long’s 1,171.

Mautino said the final results were made official on Nov. 25 by the Illinois State Board of Elections. He was confident in the results by Nov. 19, he explained, with the amount of votes outstanding, there were not enough votes left in the three counties to make an effective change when divided in half. Reported earlier in the Bureau County Republican, Mautino said he’s

been a candidate for his seat in the Illinois House of Representatives every two years since he was appointed in 1991. “But it’s worth it. You can do a lot of good in this spot,” he said. “A state rep can make a lot of things happen. I’ve always been honored and blessed to have this position, and it looks like I still will.” Comment on this story at www.bcrnews.com.

Ladd or Princeton? Regional Board of School Trustees to decide By Goldie Currie gcurrie@bcrnews.com

LADD — A Bureau County family has filed a petition with the Regional Office of Education requesting to detach from the Ladd Elementary School District and annex into Princeton Elementary School District. The Ladd School Board was notified of the petition at its Nov 25 regular meeting and plans to attend a hearing concerning the petition at noon Wednesday, Dec. 10. The family currently lives within the Ladd School District, but they have a Princeton address.

Ladd Superintendent Michelle Zeko confirmed the school board is against the annex because it would be a loss for their district. Regional Superintendent of Schools Angie Zarvell couldn’t say for sure how big of a loss it would be for Ladd but confirmed it would mean a loss of property in the school district, as well as a loss of equalized assessed value (EAV), tax revenue, and if the family has children, it would be a loss of funds coming from the state for those students. “In a lot of instances there is a land

Espinoza: ‘Improvement is always constant’ By Zita Henneberry zhenneberry@bcrnews.com

LAMOILLE — Information on average class size, average teacher salary, student test scores, student attendance levels and much more are available through the Illinois School Report Cards. The LaMoille report card can be found through a link on the LaMoille district website, or on www.illinoisreportcard. com. LaMoille CUSD 3032 Superintendent Ricardo Espinoza feels the report card

results are less useful than other testing methods. “I would like the state to report other testing information that is more useful for parents like MAP and AIMSWeb.” Espinoza said. “We are continuing to use our MAP scores to monitor learning and provide professional development to increase academic achievement.” The LaMoille report card shows the PSAE scores in the district have dropped significantly in the last year.
