members could address the school board in private at its Sept. 28 meeting. Kelley Fisher, vice president and public relations officer, told the school board that the Booster club’s six board members “have concerns we feel need to be addressed that weren’t previously addressed by the PHS administration. “It is our understanding that the board is citing the Open Meetings Act that allows, but does not require, the board to exclude certain types of discussion in open session,” Fisher said, reading from a prepared statement.

SPRING VALLEY — Hall High School will be back in the black — there’s no more red bleeding out of the budget. At the Hall board of education meeting Wednesday, Aug. 24, Superintendent Mike Struna presented a proposed budget that shows $7,339,181 in
total revenue and $7,310,696 in expenses. This will be the first time since 2010 that the budget is in the black. The balanced budget was a result of $350,000 in education fund cuts and $179,000 in additional state aid. Hall Education Association President Nicky Barto addressed the board on behalf of the teachers’ union.

“I am thrilled to be able to address the board tonight to express how refreshing it is to start this school year with a settled contract,” Barto said. “A special thanks to the association team and all members of the association for understanding the financial distress of the district by accepting a hard freeze, much larger class sizes and reductions in classroom supply expenses,
while at the same time helping to increase the percentage of freshmen on track to graduate.” Barto also encouraged the board to use due diligence in working with the additional funding and to remember the sacrifices the staff has had to make in reaching a finalized contract.
