New bleachers at PHS PHS saves $200,000 on project By Donna Barker dbarker@bcrnews.com

PRINCETON — Princeton High School will spend more than $1 million in work projects this fall. At Wednesday’s meeting, the PHS Board awarded the work project contract to Vissering Construction with a low bid of $1,219,00. The work will include building new bleachers at the football field, as well as building a new press box and a new concession stand with restrooms. The current concession stand will be relocated to the southwest corner of the field and used for storage. The projects will also include fire escape upgrades and the renovation of the school’s greenhouse. Superintendent Kirk Haring said the work on the new bleachers will begin after the football season ends and is expected to be completed by March 2014. Haring noted the PHS Board had gone out for bids earlier this year on the bleacher project but agreed to rebid the project in hopes of lower bids. The board saved about $200,000 by not approving the first, higher bid. In other building and grounds news, Haring said the summer work projects are nearing completion, including roof repairs on the Prouty and south gymnasiums and also some tuckpoint work. The summer interior cleaning and painting work is also progressing well and should be finished by the start of school, he said. On Thursday, Haring said the next major project for the board to consider is work on the science building roof. That project is anticipated to be accomplished during the next four years, he said.
