CPASA success: Up in smoke Agency buys incinerator for its P2D2 program By Goldie Rapp grapp@bcrnews.com
PRINCETON — CPASA’s P2D2 program is here to stay, thanks to the purchase of an incinera-
tor which will help sustain the prescription drugs disposal program. CPASA (Community Partners Against Substance Abuse) Director Dawn Conerton was thrilled to announce the new purchase. She confirmed the organization was able to use money from its reserves to help with the purchase. However, CPASA is still looking for donations to help
make up the cost and also to help with the upkeep of equipment. The incinerator is located at the Princeton Police Department. A fence and a shelter still needs to be built around the incinerator before it’s used. As previously reported in the BCR and the Putnam County Record, the state made the decision to no longer dispose of pre-
the street. Since September 2014, the program has collected and disposed of about 7,235 pounds of drugs. Conerton explained how CPASA has worked hard to get the incinerator to help maintain the P2D2 program. She said with the incinerator, CPASA will be able to continue
scription drugs, forcing CPASA to look into the purchase of an incinerator to continue its program, which allows residents to dispose of their unused prescription medications in a safe manner. The cost of the incinerator came to around $10,000. Since CPASA’s formation in July 2010, it has worked to keep unused prescription drugs off

IDOT closes Route 26 By Terri Simon tsimon@bcrnews.com
OTTAWA/PRINCETON — The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has announced Route 26 will be closed from Interstate 80 to Route 92 due to a pavement failure. The closure began Monday, July 13, and will continue to Sunday, Aug. 2. According to Bruce Hucker, operations engineer for IDOT, the reason for the closure stems from a compromised roadway near the Pioneer Research facility north of City-County Park. “There’s a large undermined hole under the pavement,” Hucker said. “It was caused by a 100-year-old — plus or minus — field tile that broke and undermined the pavement; there’s a cavity under there that’s 6 feet by 6 feet by 12 feet.” Hucker said the problem clearly didn’t happen overnight. The broken tile, which is made of clay, was very brittle, and what’s left of the tile had multiple cracks. IDOT will repair the problem by putting in a manhole on the west right-of-way line. From the manhole, IDOT will run the storm sewer east to the other side of the road and outlet it into the ravine, just like to old tile did. Hucker said the finish date has been set for Aug. 2, but the state hopes to actually complete the job sooner. He said the job requires very deep excavation, and wet and rainy weather makes that very difficult. “We hope to be done sooner than (Aug. 2), but we always like t build in a little time for Mother Nature,” he said. A state marked route detour will be in place utilizing Route 40, Route 92 and Interstate 80. Comment on this story at www.bcrnews.com.
