PRINCETON — The Princeton City Council and its department heads met in a round-table discussion Monday, June 29, to talk about specific ongoing and future projects the city is working on at this time. Rather than a more formal council meeting, this special meeting was more of a discussion between the city’s key players, and it focused on a variety of topics. Princeton City Manager Jeff Clawson primarily
led the discussion. Clawson has given his intent to retire from his position on July 17, so much of what Clawson spoke about included the status of ongoing projects, while offering the council and department heads various scenarios they might want to think about as they proceed into the future. They are staggering statistics ... According to the American Cancer Society, one in three women and one in two men will hear the words, “You have cancer,” at some point in their lifetimes. “If you don’t know someone (who has had that diagnosis), you will,” said Tanya Huntington, JD, who is the community manager for the Relay for Life of Bureau County. County Relay for Life is putting on a new face this year, and event-goers — old and new alike — will be able to enjoy an evening out, while supporting this American Cancer Society event that helps raise funds for cancer research, education, and community outreach programs like helping to fund wigs for cancer patients, helping to pay for transportation and motel rooms for those receiving cancer treatments and more. Bureau County Relay for Life is set for 5 p.m. to 1 a.m. Friday, Aug. 7, at Zearing Park in Princeton — a new time and location for the Bureau County event that has helped to raise thousands of dollars throughout the past 19 years. The event was formerly an overnight activity and held at Hall High School in Spring Valley.

of planning when it comes to location and finances, and different members of local communities have gladly taken to the task of organizing festivities guaranteed to bring people together under the showers of sparkle. Princeton Jaycees President Ashley Mecum said the Jaycees host fundraising efforts around town, so
the club is able to contract out the fireworks show for Princeton. Each of the last few years, they were able to raise more than $13,000 to purchase fireworks. “We send out donation letters and sponsorship letters to the local Chamber members, and this year we are going to ask
