Want to retire early? City of Princeton looks at IMRF scenario By Goldie Currie gcurrie@bcrnews.com
PRINCETON — The Princeton City Council is looking into an early retirement incentive program for employees of the city, which also includes Perry Memorial Hospital. The program is through the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) and is designed to allow an employee who qualifies for the program to buy up to five years of service in order to retire early. Princeton City Manager Jeff Clawson explained the program to the council at its regular meeting on Monday, June 1. “The logic behind the program when it was created a number of years ago was to be able to take senior level employees who make high wages and replace them with employees who make lower wages. It saves dollars for the employer, in
this case the city and hospital,” Clawson said. Clawson said he’s been calculating the numbers within the city, and there are 34 hospital employees and 13 city employees who are eligible for the program. Clawson has sat down with Perry Memorial Hospital CEO Rex Conger, and together they’ve prioritized the employees to see who is highly likely, medium likely and low likely to retire. Clawson said there are about 13 employees between the city and hospital who are highly likely to retire under this program. “We’re assuming these people would be replaced at 80 percent of the wages of the current people in those positions,” he said. “We have several people who could be replaced at much less than that just

PRINCETON — The Princeton Park District has implemented a new orientation program for its employees. The orientation presentation was put together by park district administrative assistant Tammy Lange. At the park district board meeting on Monday, June 1, Lange talked about the presentation and explained it was one of her objectives given in her review to come up with the program. She has been working with aquatic and recreation assistant Nick Davis on the process, and last week was the first time the presentaYear 169 No. 67 Two Sections - 28Pages
tion was given to employees. Lange said many of the employees who went through the first orientation were returning for another part-time summer job. “I think it was a really good overview because we talk about what is the Princeton Park District, and it wouldn’t be a surprise that a lot of the younger people think the Bureau County Metro Center is the Princeton Park District,” she said. She said many were also surprised to learn the park district has more than 223 acres of parks. While many of the young employees knew about the various parks around town, most didn’t realize they were all included

Walnut OKs sewer project bid
Bid was considerably higher than expected By Nita Wyatt news@bcrnews.com
WALNUT — The village of Walnut has reviewed the bids it has received for the upcoming sewer plant improvement project. Village engineer Matt Hansen presented the opened
bids to the village board at its meeting Monday, June 1. Hansen of Willett Hofman & Associates, Dixon, came to the board with the results of the bid process for the improvement project. A total of four sealed bids were received.
All of the bids were above the estimated $2 million price tag for the entire project. The lowest bid was received from Leander Construction Inc. of Canton. This bid of $2,512,000 was discussed by the board. Hansen expressed his disappointment in the higher cost and also stated his engineering firm has worked with this construction company previously and has found
them to be well organized with a good final product. Hansen also stated this type of construction is specialized, and seeking additional bids would not give the village significantly less expensive options as the other bids already received were much higher. Hansen and the board compared the estimated costs with the actual bid
