Lady Devils Princeton sophomore guard Anna Murray hits the deck trying to save a loose ball in the second half of Tuesday’s game at Rockridge. The host Rockets won 46-39.
From Page 11A shooters today, we needed to get shooters in open spots and get it into the post and get good passes off of that,” Barroso said. “We moved the ball around and got good shots off of that. I just shot it and wasn’t sure if it was going in at first. It’s nerve wracking when we were down by four, and I just had to get a shot off with a couple seconds left and I did that.” The Hall offense refused to give in as Galassi was uncharacteristically held to no points in the first half, but got key contributions off of the bench such as a second quarter trey by senior guard Amanda Scheri. Contributions off of the bench, along with Barroso’s fine performance, provided enough support for the Hall offense until Galassi could get going with eight second-half points, including six in the fourth quarter. “We stopped Galassi early, but unfortunately we gave Barroso four 3s in the game,” Amboy coach Mike McCracken said. McCracken was visibly upset after the game as he had warned his girls that they couldn’t put themselves in a position to allow the referees to decide the game. “The worst part is I know who was reffing this game. It’s a guy who coached football and was the AD here for a long time,” McCracken said. “I asked to have them removed, not because I don’t like the guy, but it’s because he shouldn’t

Then the Rockets found the rim a lot tighter, missing seven straight. The Tigresses (8-11, 2-8) took full advantage, using 3-of-4 free throws by Anna Murray and 1-2 by Courtney Oeder and a drive by Michaela Mall to close within 41-37 with less than two minutes to play. Carrie Strachan broke the Rockets’ ice with a pair of free throws at the 1:28 mark. Taylor Johnson hooped from the field, before missing twice from the foul line. Doria Parcheet iced the Rockets’ win with a pair of free throws with 18.3 remaining. The Tigresses took an 11-7 lead late in the first quarter on an relay with a rebound by Ivy Rhodes, who
passed to Anna Murray then on to Michaela Strom and finally to Oeder for the bucket. Jessica Stice hooped twice for Rockridge to trim the PHS lead to 11-9 at quarter’s end. PHS went up six points (15-9) to start the second quarter, its biggest lead of the night. Rockridge scored five straight to tie the game at 17, on a 3-point bank shot by Courtney Stice before Rhodes hooped to close the half to put PHS back on top by two. Rockridge dominated the second half, beginning with a 11-2 run to take a 28-21 lead. The Rockets opened the fourth quarter with a 9-5 run to go up 41-31 and then held their breath as they continued to struggle from the foul line. Courtney Oeder had 13 points and Anna Murray 10 for PHS. • Tiger tales: Rockridge won the soph prelim 32-25. Maddie Forristall led PHS with 12 points. ... Hall’s Rena Barroso fires away for Hall Tuesday in Spring Valley against Amboy. She later made a key 3-pointer to send the Lady Devils to victory, 39-38. be reffing in his own home school.” Barroso led her team in scoring and was dialed in from behind the three-point line as she knocked down 4-of-5 to shoot 80 percent as part of her 16-point night. “I told the girls that’s our best win by far this year. They got us twice last year, one in overtime and one at the buzzer, so it was our turn,” Holman said. “We’ve been fighting and trying to get good wins like against Sherrard the other night and we just did not shoot the ball well and
that’s all there is to it. Defensively, we’ve been playing fine. Shots have to go in and tonight, fortunately, enough went in and Hunter made a few free throws at the end to seal the deal.” • Notes: Holman said the game officials, including former Hall AD/coach Gary Vicini, are assigned by the conference. He said there were no issues when the same crew worked the Amboy game at Hall last year which Amboy won. Comment on this story at www.bcrnews.com.
