Obituaries Larry Huber

David Kelm WYANET — David W. Kelm, 58, of Wyanet passed away at 6:15 a.m. Wednesday, June 26, 2013, at his home in rural Wyanet. Born April 4, 1955, in Kewanee to William and Elaine (Gutschlag) Kelm, he married Elizabeth R. Ashley July 21, 2001, in Atkinson. She survives. A 1973 graduate of Manlius High School, he was a lifetime farmer. David He was an avid golfer, Green Bay fan Kelm and fisherman. He was a member of the Hidden Lake Golf Course, National Rifle Association and the Route 6 Bowling League. Also surviving are one son, Trevor Kelm of Manlius; one daughter, Audra Kelm of Chicago; three stepsons, Scott Hill of Geneseo, Dustin Hill of Kewanee and Brody DeVrieze of Princeton; his mother, Elaine Kelm of Sheffield; one sister, Karla (Tim) Miller of Sheffield; one brother, Michael (Colleen) Kelm of LaMoille; and four stepgrandchildren, Chelsie Hill of Kewanee, Camron Hill of Kewanee, Kaiden Hill of Geneseo and Alexandra Hill of Mineral. He was preceded in death by his father. Services will be at 10 a.m. today, Saturday, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Sheffield, with Father Mark Miller officiating. Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery, Sheffield. Visitation was held Friday at the Grant-Johnson Funeral Home in Manlius. Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association or the donor’s choice. Pallbearers will be Don King, Fred Lebahn, Russ Munson, Greg Polte, Toby Sanden and Jeff Peterson. ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Larry Joseph Huber passed away at his home in St. Louis, Mo., on Friday, June 21, 2013, at the age of 63 after losing his battle with cancer. Larry was born in Peoria on July 20, 1949, the son of Howard J. and Verna J. (Smith) Huber, who preceded him in death. He grew up in Princeton and graduated from Princeton High School in 1967. The Huber family auto repair business Larry Huber was Huber’s Sinclair service station on East Peru Street from the mid 1950s to early 1970s. As a member of the U.S. Army, Larry served his country in Vietnam. Following military service, he relocated to the St. Louis, Mo., area. Always a mechanic by trade, he was a long-time employee of Altec Service Group in Wentzville, Mo. (formerly Powerline Equipment). He was a man of his word and a hard worker. He loved to spend his spare time riding his motorcycle, hunting and working on his property in the country. He is survived by his wife, Judy (Strake) Huber; a daughter, Jennifer Mundy; his grandchildren, Jeff, Jacqueline and Jessica Mundy; and his loving canine friend, Cody. Larry is also survived by four sisters, Sharon McKinnon, Jo Ann Rotter and Brenda Dotson of the St. Louis area, and Debra Steffek of York County, Pa.; four nephews, Scott Novotny, Brett Novotny, Kevin Rotter and David Dotson; four nieces, Michelle McKinnon, Sarah Chandler, Stacey Shanberger and Tonya Classon; and many other relatives and friends. At Larry’s request, his body was cremated and there will be no visitation or funeral. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or your local Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA).

Brett Sandberg PRINCETON — Brett M. Sandberg, 34, of Princeton passed away at 10:18 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, 2013, at Perry Memorial Hospital in Princeton. He was born March 6, 1979, in Princeton to Carl and Sharon (Norlin) Sandberg. He was a 1997 graduate of Princeton High School. He worked at Advanced Door Control Brett Solutions in Princeton. Surviving are his mother, Sharon (Kevin) Sandberg Knudsen of Princeton; two sisters, Jodi Westerhold of Princeton and Abby Sandberg of Princeton; one stepbrother, Adam Knudsen of Princeton; one stepsister, Angela Smith of Crystal Lake; one niece, Savannah Westerhold of Princeton; and a special friend, Lisa Hebb of Princeton. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Joseph Marion and Freida Sandberg; his maternal grandparents, Marion and LaVerne Norlin; his father, Carl Sandberg on July 22, 2001; and three aunts. Services will be at 11 a.m. today, Saturday, at the GrantJohnson Funeral Home, Princeton, with Pastor Laura Tanner officiating. Burial will be in Elm Lawn Memorial Park, Princeton. Visitation was held Friday at the funeral home. A memorial fund is being established in his name. Memorials may also be directed to the donor’s choice.

Gene Gebhart PRINCETON — Gene Gebhart, 87, of Princeton passed away Friday, June 28, 2013, at Perry Memorial Hospital in Princeton. Arrangements are pending at the Garland Funeral Home in Walnut.

MERRITT ISLAND, Fla. — Loren L. Schnicke, 74, of Merritt Island, Fla., formerly of Wyanet, passed away Saturday, June 22, 2013, in Merritt Island. He was born and raised in Wyanet. Surviving are one son, Matthew of Merritt Island, Fla.; one sister, Muriel Casey of Lady Lake, Fla.; and one niece, Obituary deadlines Catherine Colombo Scheiman of Virginia. Bureau County Sheriff Accidents

Francis C. Strange, 58, of Hollowayville was involved in an accident at 8:45 a.m. June 21 while traveling on 1400 North Avenue, at the intersection with 2900 East Street. Violation of protection order

Thomas D. Clancy, 44, of Mendota was charged with a violation of an order of protection at 2:01 a.m. June 24 in rural LaMoille.

Spring Valley Police Accident

Vehicles driven by Manuel M. Cruz, 47, of DePue and Annette M. Salazar, 55, of Princeton were involved in an accident on Route 29 near Route 6 and Route 89 at 8:31 a.m. June 25. Cruz was ticketed for following too closely.

Neponset Village Board NEPONSET – The Neponset Village Board took action on the following items at its meeting June 19: • Heard about the three culverts needing repair for Chestnut, Elm and Commercial streets. The board amended the resolution to add the three culverts to the maintenance agreement from IDOT for MFT 2013/2014. • Heard Trustee Ken Snyder spoke with engineer from Willett Hofmann, and progress is being made for the purchase of the generator for the new water plant. • Approved a building permit for a garage at 104 S. 1st. St. • Heard from Trustee John Pratt there has been some theft around town. He also said some residents are complaining about kids riding 4-wheelers and speeding on the streets and the police have been informed. • Reviewed the water

ordinance and decided to take a look to see if some sections can be improved to bring it up to date. • Heard Martin Engineering reserved the ball diamond for Aug. 19. • Heard Village President Carl Rohrig say the village would sign the proposal for J. B. Electrical to install a surge suppressor for well #4 and the cost will be incorporated into the loan money. The board approved the cost of $3,822 for the surge suppressor for well #4. • Accepted the intergovernmental agreement between Neponset and Princeton for mosquito eradication. • Met the new owners of Mike’s old barber shop. They said they will be giving $4 haircuts and should open at the first of the year.
