HUNTLEY – Route 47 commuters wanting to use new eastbound and westbound ramps on Interstate 90 in Huntley will have to wait a little longer because of some minor delays to the multimillion-dollar interchange project. The Illinois Toll Highway Authority originally estimated this summer as the time when travelers could start using the revamped interchange at Route 47 and I-90 that would for the first time allow commuters to go east and west along the interstate from Route 47. But since breaking ground on the project in June, engineers have had to redesign support piers for the bridges that carry Route 47 traffic

At a glance In the coming months, Tollway crews will complete construction on the six new ramps and rebuild the existing Route 47 bridge to carry northbound traffic over I-90. Crews also will install new traffic light signals along the interchange.

jhuh@shawmedia.com McHENRY – Ashley Hale, 11, had no regrets after getting her head shaved bald Thursday night. “It’s for a good cause,” said Hale, a sixth-grader at McHenry Middle School. “Cancer runs in my family, and I don’t want the little kids to suffer.” Hale was among the record number of “shavees” at McHenry High School West Campus taking part in the community’s third annual fundraiser for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a charity that raises money for pediatric cancer research. St. Baldrick’s participants get their heads shaved bald for donations. And some also donate their hair to other organizations, such as Locks of Love, which provide wigs for children dealing with hair loss caused by cancer treatments. Hale held on to her 12 inches of brown hair and put it in a plastic bag to donate to Locks of Love. Hundreds patiently stood in line waiting to get their heads

SPRINGFIELD – State lawmakers inched along Thursday with ideas aimed at solving Illinois’ nearly $100 billion pension crisis as three different proposals – including a bipartisan plan – saw movement. The bipartisan plan is sponsored by House Republican Leader Tom Cross and Democratic state Rep. Elaine Nekritz and requires higher employee contributions and generally delays cost-of-living increases until age 67, among other things. It also tests out making universities and some school districts pick up

“Working this bill in a traditional way, we really have not been able to come up with a solution.” State Rep. Elaine Nekritz
