WOODRIDGE — Two Woodridge schools have been recognized by the state for academic performance. William F. Murphy and Edgewood Schools in Woodridge were named by the Illinois Sate Board of Education and Northern Illinois University as part of their State Honor Roll program, an annual recognition program that recognizes schools across the state in three categories using state standardized test scores and demographic information. Murphy School was recognized for both the program’s Academic Excellence Award and the Spotlight Schools Award, while Edgewood School was recognized with the Spotlight Schools Award. The Academic Excellence Award is given to schools that sustain very high academic performance over at least three years, according to the Illinois Honor Roll website. Spotlight Schools are those considered highpoverty schools where high academic performance is closing the achievement gap. Murphy School is one of just 15 schools in the state to receive both awards. School officials said this is the second-consecutive year
