HILE WE LOVE A GREAT NEUTRAL COLOR PALETTE when preparing homes for sale, we’re just as excited about the dramatic shades making their way onto walls for 2024. Last month we talked about how “new neutrals” are warming up with buttery and blush undertones; now we are seeing designers add darker colors back in as accents to balance and add contrast to the neutral shades. These colors vary from chocolate browns and interesting blacks to deep navy and forest green. Done right, they bring character, depth, and visual interest to a space without overpowering it.

Sherwin-Williams’ palette is a great place to get inspired. Balanced by natural, earthy pigments and daring color combinations, we love the idea that it’s just as much about how you use the color as the color itself. Go bold by painting your entire powder room a saturated dark like Billard Green (0016), Gale Force (7605), or Cornelian (7580)—or use them with contrasting neutrals to create drama in a bedroom. ID YOU KNOW THAT DECORATING for the upcoming holidays is also a great opportunity to declutter your home? Many of us feel like we’ve collected too much holiday decor over the years, and just gathering everything together to start the process of simplifying can often seem like a chore (and who needs the additional stress during this time of year?). But as you start breaking out the boxes of items from seasons past, it really is the perfect time to re-evalute what you really love and what might be best to give away.

If downsizing is part of your long-term plan, you’ll thank yourself for beginning the process this season. One way to inspire yourself to start is to think about a year from now, and how easy and fun it will be to decorate if you only keep what you love!
