Mixing vintage with new creates lasting style

T

he trend for 2022 is a return to lasting style, according to Good Housekeeping magazine. Influenced by supply-chain disruptions, months-long back orders, and the awareness that ‘buy it and throw it away’ consumerism is bad for our planet, more Americans are returning to repurposing items and shopping vintage. We all have a piece or two of furniture that may have been passed down from a beloved family member, or one you fell in love with at a flea market and didn’t have a place for when you got home—but finding a way to work them into your decor can be a fun challenge. The best approach is to mix old and new: I love how the designer paired this vintage chair and modern desk in the photo top right. This style combo isn’t just beautiful and unique, but good for the environment as well. Do you own a vintage piece of furniture but aren’t sure how to repurpose or mix it into your interior? Email me a picture at shaunna.burhop@bairdwarner.com and I’ll get input from one of my favorite local designers and send some ideas to you. I’ll even pick one lucky person to get a “hands on” home visit and post the results on my instagram. Stay tuned! n
