DESIGN TRENDS:

Exaggerated Proportions

O

ne of my favorite trending designers is Shea McGee of Studio McGee. I love how approachable and adaptable her style is, and how she deftly incorporates a variety of elements into many different types of home decor. According to McGee, one of the top trends for 2022 is the idea of exaggerated proportions. “Playing with scale is always a great way to keep things interesting in design, and this year, we’re excited to see even more exaggerated proportions in everything from statement-making lighting to sculpturallike vases and artwork. Even proportions in hard finishes like tile and hardware can feel exaggerated and draw the eye to every detail, giving any interior a custom and thoughtful feeling,” Shea says. The oversized mirror and lamp on the vintage-wood console (top right) adds light and drama to this rustic-cool entryway in the McGee home. Inspired by Shea, we used this large-scale artichoke (bottom right), to draw attention to the kitchen island counter space while staging a recent listing. Think about playing with scale in your own home— the effects might surprise you! n See more great design at studio-mcgee.com
