Going Green for Spring

W

e’re all longing to spend more time outside while we are stuck waiting for those stubborn April showers to pass. My advice is to bring the outdoors in by adding some fresh new greens to your interior. Plants create both a visual and physical connection with nature, and help layer color and variety into your space. I also love the look achieved from mixing planters of different shapes, sizes, materials, and textures, too. Malka Helft of Think Chic Interiors noted the focus on bringing bits of nature indoors—and mentioned how we’ll most likely see it unfold in terms of trends. “This year we will be seeing large trees in living rooms and kitchens. Another strong trend that goes right alongside this one is oversized planters in natural colors made out of natural materials such as jute, ceramic, and even concrete.” “Plant carts” are all the rage too—and a really fun and easy way to make a statement piece. Start with a kitchen or bar cart and position tall varieties on top, with shorter plants such as succulents on the middle and bottom rows for a multi-dimensional look. Then you can wheel it around the house as the light changes throughout the season! n

GREEN ON THE GO Creating a “plant cart” is an easy and fun way to bring a splash of fresh greens and a variety of textures into your space.
