Take Your Dog For A Walk On-Leash

Want to explore the town of Jackson and its surrounding neighborhoods? Your pup can most definitely join! Check out the Town Map provided by the Friends of Pathways nonprofit organization at friendsofpathways.org. A dog favorite is the Elk Run entrance to High School Road and back. This route has a path that winds along the river, offering plenty of opportunities for cooling off in the water. Keep in mind that your dog must be leashed.

Off-Leash Adventures

Snow King Mountain, the ski hill that watches over the town of Jackson, is perfect for dog adventures. In the summer, follow the switchbacks to reach the top, passing through all of the smells of critters, wildflowers, new friends and fresh air! There is no requirement for dogs to be leashed, so let them be free, but keep them in sight and under voice control, of course.

Need a little more of a challenge? Check out the Table Mountain hike on the Idaho side of the Tetons. Afterwards, stop by Grand Teton Brewing to enjoy a beer outside with your pooch and sample a variety of snacks from local food trucks. If you want to stay on the Jackson Hole side, Jackson Peak is an amazing option for a challenging day hike with views of the town and all of its surrounding mountain ranges. On your way back down take a dip with your dog in Goodwin Lake.

If hiking is not really your thing, try exploring the Cache Creek trail system by bike (Silver–Best Biking, pg. 14) where you can mountain bike (or run) with your dog. The trails offer plenty of spots to

cool off in the creek. A local favorite is the Hagen/ Putt Putt Loop which is about six miles, the perfect distance for your pup.

On seriously hot summer days, the best place to be is soaking in a large body of water. Slide Lake offers the perfect place for a cool dip. Try renting a paddleboard from Rendezvous River Sports and paddling around the lake with your dog lounging on the bow.

During the winter, Emily’s Pond and Turpin Meadows offer miles of dog-friendly crosscountry ski trails. If you’re more in the mood for some downhill action, purchase an uphill ski pass and hike up Snow King Mountain with your pup for sunrise, and then enjoy the ski down! Dogs are allowed on the mountain before the lifts start to spin for the day.

Out On The Town

In the summer months take advantage of the warmer nights and sit outside on a restaurant patio with your pooch! Bin22 (Gold–Best Happy Hour, pg. 51), Café Genevieve (Silver–Best Breakfast, pg. 54), Cowboy Coffee (Gold–Best Coffee Shop, pg. 55), Healthy Being Juicery (Silver–Best Health Food, pg. 43), Persephone (Bronze–Best Coffee Shop), and The Bird (Silver–Best Outdoor Dining, pg. 55) all allow your pets to relax and enjoy some time with their humans.

Lost and Found!

If you and your pup get separated while you’re out exploring Jackson Hole: don’t panic. Contact the Teton County Sheriff’s Office and PAWS of Jackson Hole (Bronze–Best Nonprofit, pg. 113) so they can help reunite you with your best friend. And if there’s room in your heart for another furry pal, consider adopting a pet from the Animal Adoption Center or Teton County Animal Shelter.
