In 2023, Share the Magic Foundation celebrated 8 years since we were founded by Malcolm Mitchell, UGA Legend and Super Bowl Champion*. In those 8 years, our supporters and program partners helped us raise more than $5.5 million, enough to provide literacy programming and books to more than 1.1 million students.
In 2023, we visited a record 99 schools and gathered as an organization with our education partners and supporters. Each time we were together, it reminded us that our mission is people-powered — carried forward by the generosity of our community and the students we serve.
In 2023, our community’s commitment to eradicating illiteracy once again gave us reasons to celebrate. Our supporters and program partners put on an incredible show of generosity, raising over $1.7 million. As a result, 347,903 students and their communities will have the opportunity to receive innovative literacy programming and books.

Existing and new supporters joined us for A Magical Evening of Literacy. This generous community of supporters raised over $800,000, helping to fund Share the Magic Foundation’s program and operating expenses. In 2023, communities across the US joined our mission by hosting 99 Reading Rallies and Reader to Leader Programs.
8,741 educators became a part of our Virtual Community by making our Virtual Reading Challenges part of their curriculum.
Share the Magic Foundation works with partners who have a passion to improve grade level reading proficiency. In 2023, we onboarded new partners, including Roark, Mercedes Benz USA, Love One Foundation, Always Dream Foundation, Raising a Reader, Campaign for Grade Level Reading, and Worldreader, among others.
Our virtual education team launched a variety of awareness engagements in 2023 to increase participation in our FREE virtual reading challenges. The result? A 129% increase in our participation in our virual programs as compared to 2022.
Educators continue to ask for more programs. We heard the request and we answered with two new programs.
READMadness: A literacy based activity designed to spark creativity and engage students to think critically by exploring poetry.
Classes read, discuss and vote on brackets of poems.
Shop the Magic: A new partnership program where students shop at local bookstores and enjoy a Read Aloud.
