2023 YEAR IN REVIEW
2023 YEAR IN REVIEW
As we reflect on the past year, I’m filled with gratitude and admiration for the amazing efforts of everyone in the Share Ourselves family. Your dedication and kindness have truly made a difference in many lives across Orange County.
In 2023, we saw a big increase in the need for our health and social services, ranging from food distribution to dental care and everything in between. This showed us just how important Share Ourselves is to our community. Thanks to your support, we’ve been able to help those who need it most and stay true to our mission.
One of the highlights of this year was opening our new clinic with the Newport Mesa Unified School District. Located at the BESST Center near Rea Elementary, this clinic is already making a big impact by providing medical care to children in the district. This is a huge step forward in our goal to ensure every child and family in our community can access essential health and social services, regardless of their circumstances.
In 2024, we’re excited to keep improving and finding ways to better serve our patients. We know many people in our community struggle to receive the care they need, and we’re determined to find solutions through innovation and teamwork.
I want to thank each of you from the bottom of my heart for your partnership, advocacy, and contributions of time, talent, and treasure. Your support keeps Share Ourselves a source of hope and help for so many in Orange County.
Warm regards,
Christy Ward

He’s going to give me my smile back. “ ”
Kadie Wilson, Share Ourselves Patient
Health can affect us in all facets of life. Kadie’s life took a dramatic turn after a sudden divorce and a series of unfortunate events left her homeless and without support. The struggles of living in her car and relying on food pantries left Kadie feeling hopeless until she received support from Share Ourselves. The care management team helped her find temporary housing and referred her to our dental clinic after she suffered a dental injury.
The feelings of anxiousness and embarassment about the state of her teeth quickly dissipated upon being welcomed with open arms by Dr. Vu, who began the process of restoring her smile. Kadie’s dental services were pivotal in rebuilding her confidence and trust. Dr. Vu’s care not only improved her oral health but also boosted her overall wellbeing. Kadie’s positive outlook and determination to improve her situation, coupled with the support she received, played a significant role in her journey to success.
Money should never be a barrier to care.
At Share Ourselves, we believe that all people deserve equal opportunities to better health.
We provide services that help our patients get the insurance coverage they need, ease the burden of out-of-pocket expenses, or support in times of serious hardship.
The clients are such nice people, and when you get to know them, you understand how important we are in their lives. “ ”
Charlene’s life was marred by repeated childhood abuse, leading her to flee to the streets where she succumbed to additiction and despair. Her tumultuous past entangled her in a vicious cycle of drugs and alcohol, from which she saw no escape. Despite seeking refuge in a domestic violence shelter to protect her son, her struggle with addiction caused her to lose custody. It was during these dark times that Charlene discovered Share Ourselves.
Over eight arduous years, she relied on Share Ourselves for essentail services, including food, medical care, and recovery support. The compassionate care managers
at Share Ourselves played a crucial role in her recovery, urging her to cut ties with toxic influences and helping her rebuild her life.
Through the unwavering support of Share Ourselves, Charlene achieved sobriety, regained steady employment, and won back custody of her son. Though she still faces challenges, he remains resilient. Her son excels in school, plays football, and attends church regularly with her. Charlene now helps others on their recovery journeys, embodying the strength of the human spirt and the transformative power of care management.
We go beyond traditional healthcare by offering comprehensive social services to support overall health. We understand that health extends beyond the exam room and that barriers and struggles come in many forms.

Our range of social services are designed to address the complex aspects of health, aimed to meet each patient’s unique needs, while ensuring they receive the support necessary for a balanced and fulfilling life.

When I was applying for scholarships, I noticed I didn’t necessarily qualify for many of them, but when I came across the First in Family scholarship, I felt hope that I could receive the assistance I needed.

Ileana Hernandez, First in Family Scholarship Recipient
The transformative power of education is vividly demonstrated through the First in Family College Scholarship Program. Ileana Hernandez, a proud alumna, exemplifies this impact. After graduating from Costa Mesa High School in 2017, Ileana benefited immensely from the program’s support, which included financial aid, a new laptop, and other supplies. This support alleviated significant financial burdens, enabling her to focus on her studies at Vanguard University.
After completing her bachelor’s degree, Ileana took a gap year, contemplating her next steps. Ileana returned to Share Ourselves, this time as a patient services representative. The scholarship award introduced her to the impact of Share Ourselves and motivated her to give back. Her life experiences allowed her to empathize with others in the community,
understanding their perspectives and striving to help them navigate the challenges they face. Ileana’s journey from scholarship recipient to a valued team member at Share Ourselves showcases the lasting influence of community programs.
This background inspired her to pursue a master’s degree in public health at the University of Southern California, aiming to further her impact. As a mentor to other first-generation students, Ileana passionately advocates for scholarships tailored to their unique needs, recognizing the scarcity of such support. Her dedication to community programs and her ongoing educational pursuits underscore her commitment to empowering others and driving positive change within her community.
Share Ourselves relies on a diverse range of funding sources to sustain our operations and support the vital services we provide to the community.
