a fun way to learn

Background

Journey is a parent-children educational product that combines virtual play with physical toys, allowing children to learn and develop logical thinking and problem solving skills while being engaged in adventure stories and scenarios. According to research by The Toy Association, toys and games are effective in helping children understand concepts and learn professional knowledge.

with Path Game we aim to give a warm introduction of coding for kids, giving out the basis knowledge and training the soft skill needed. Three basic programming construct that will be used in (almost) any programming language : Sequence, Selection, Loop.

in Counting Game, children will have chances to excercise number recognition and mathematical pattern. Covering the most basic mathematic operations : adding, and substraction.

Product Details

What user will get :

Playing Board

Tablet Stand

Camera Reflector

Path Game 20 Pieces Set Up

Counting Game 20 Pieces

1. Put electronic tab on stand

2. Next, choose the game and slid the suitable board

3. Lastly, secure the reflector on top of the iPad

3 2 1

User Flow

Open the APP and start challenge

Get the character to the nal point (red ag), avoid the obstacle(s) and collect the gem.

How parent should help?

On the board, put the same blocks in the same position as shown on the screen

Then what happens?

What should the kids do?

Help the character to cross by putting the lane blocks

What happens to the character?

Press the button when done: if all the blocks on board are put in the right position, all the blocks will light up, and the lane blocks will appear.

If the route is correct, the character proceed to move. If wrong it will stay still.

UI Design

For JOURNEY we used pixel art as it’s main art style, there is a main female character that will guide the users through all the levels embarking their journey. There are 3 different levels in Path Game :

Easy mode uses ‘sequence’ concept

For “medium mode” user will be challenged to choose which path pieces that crosses the bridges we’ve provided to reach the end point

For “easy mode” user can choose which path pieces to choose freely to reach the end point

Medium mode uses ‘selection’ concept

Hard mode uses ‘loop’ concept

For “hard mode” user will be challenged to start using the “multiply by” pieces. In this example the game uses 2 sets of the same 2 path pieces, we hope that instead of putting 4 pieces they can substitute the second set with “x2” piece

Dawn

Bedside lamp inspired by lunar eclipse, to inspire them who suffer from Seasonal Affective Disorder

Background

In this project I was inspired by the meaning of light itself, what would happend if humans deprived from lights. Making “Dawn” a minimalist lighting fixture inspired by the lunar eclipse, as a reminder that even during the darkest moments, eventually there will be light

Target Audience

Seasonal Affective Disorder : mood disorder that typically occurs during specific seasons, most commonly in fall and winter when daylight hours are shorter.

Early sketch concept derived from sunrise

LUMI is a series of modular lighting fixtures which concept focuses on attracting user to interact with this series. Our design values lies on “companionship” and “interaction”

We created interchangeable design by combining soft crocheted fabrics with light bulbs, creating lamps that not only can be used as cushions, hugged, or carried. User can easily change customize their own form, bringing a warm sense of companionship to their living space.

In the modular mechanism design, we have created a set of universal connectors. The bottommost component is pierced and stitched in crochet form, securing it to the crocheted fabric. As for the light bulbs, they come with a simple twist button that can be fastened to the crocheted fabric. We emphasize that usability was taken into consideration in this modular design, allowing users to easily replace accessories and enhance the overall user experience.

LUMI : accompanying you in every moment

Indoor lighting fixture which integrates circular economy and crochet craftsmanship, breaking through traditional material limitations by using recycled TPE tubes.

We chose TPE as it has suitable characteristics for crocheted lighting fixture; high heat resistance, excellent elasticity, and recycleable. With using unconventional recyclable material。 During the material exploration process, we discovered that the TPE tube retains good elasticity even after being crocheted, allowing for easy bending, folding, and rolling, with many possibilities for development in form.

From material exploration to lighting fixture

During the crocheting process, we continuously experimented with changing stitching patterns,  stitch counts, and hook sizes to achieve desired texture and forms. Creating different light and  shadow effect that enrich the visual presentation of the lighting fixture.

We design punctured parts on both sides to seamlessly integrate the crocheted body to the mechanical component of the lighting fixture.

The number of puncture holes follows the circumference of the crocheted part. For this project, we used 24 holes
