Good evening and welcome to Woodbridge! Thank you for attending Woodbridge Senior High School Choir’s 2024 Pre-Assessment Concert. This concert will feature music of a high level which is done in preparation for our Virginia Music SOLs: Choral Assessment.
Our focus these past several weeks as we have preparing for Assessment has been on work ethic, musicality, dynamics, musical expression, stage presence, and vocal tone and control. This is the most detailed work that we do on music over the course of the year in Choir, in preparation for the culmination of all of the student’s hard work in an Assessment Performance which will be judged by three music professionals. Additionally, students are tasked with sight-reading a 30-second musical excerpt that they have never seen before by working together in small groups for two minutes to “sight-read”. This takes a combination of solfege training, ear training, and vocal training in order to be successful. Although you will not see this process on display tonight, feel free to ask your student about it!
I would like to acknowledge our six-person Choir Leadership Team, who work to make all Choir students have a positive and enriching musical and social experience. Their names are listed below so you can celebrate them!
We are grateful to our two guest groups for being here tonight: Fred Lynn Middle School, under the direction of Ms. Caelyn Davis, and Lake Ridge Middle School, under the direction of Ms. Maggie Rabe.
We have two mock judges who will be providing constructive feedback to our students in support of their efforts to improve their performances from tonight into their Assessment performances next week. Those two judges are my esteeemed colleagues and friends, Mrs. Sherlee Glomb and Mx. AJ Rodriguez, two of the finest teachers in Virginia. You will see / hear them speaking into microphones tonight, which is how our students will receive helpful feedback to support their learning!
Finally, I would like to thank you for being here tonight to support a student in the choir program. It is immensely important to have a support system from friends and family. I know it means the world to us to have you here tonight! We hope you enjoy our presentation tonight, and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts for supporting the arts here in Woodbridge!
Sincerely,

CONCERT ETIQUE E
Thank you for joining us this evening. As the audience, you are an important part of tonight’s concert. The audience’s responsibility at formal concerts is to honor the efforts of the performers by providing a listening atmosphere in which their performance can be appreciated by all. To that end, we ask your cooperation:
* While the performance is in progress, remain seated and quiet. (If it becomes necessary to leave the auditorium, please do so between musical selections.)
* We love young children; however, if you have very young children that might become restless and disrupt others’ ability to listen, station yourself so you can exit the auditorium quickly so as to not disrupt the students’ performance.
* Please do not hum or clap along with the performers, unless specifically invited to do so.
* When there are soloists, please wait until a break in the song to applaud.
Thank you for supporting music and the arts at Woodbridge High School!
