Desire Newsletter’s purpose is to properly introduce Ngee Ann Polytechnic’s Design and Environment

CommonWealth Crescent Hawker Centre is a residential hawker centre located near housing blocks, it serves mainly the estate surrounding it. Most customers are elderly but it is not that accessible to customers coming from out of the estate. The hawker centre is very secluded and hidden from main roads away from passersby and it is also lacking visual presence. There are not a lot of coverage on the internet (i.e food blogs/website) about CommonWealth Crescent Hawker Centre. Competing restaurants take away the attention and customers.

How might we make hawker centres more obvious or recognizable to the public ?
• Advertising campaign for hawker centres
• App with collated information on the hawker centres; including directions
• Signage that locates locals to designated hawker centres
Advertisement posters can be plastered on bus stops and MRT stations to serve as a visual guide on how to navigate to the hawker centre.
Design Vision Advertisement
Inspired by Chong Pang’s signage for the elderly to the hawker centre. The signage is to help elderly with dementia guiding their way to different locations. The inspirations came about for other hawker centres with the intention to spread awareness. Bringing attention of the hawker centres to other residents or non-residents.
These signages’ designs will include the signature feature of the hawker centres. This makes the sign instantly recognisable as it takes advantage of human visual memory.

SG Hawkers is a one stop app with all the information you need about hawker centres . From directions to new food items released and even live timings, open the app and feed the information megalomaniac inside of you. It is a useful application that allows users to get all the information they need about hawker centers.
SG Hawkers connects all the hawkers centres around singapore seamlessly. With individual pages for each hawker centre containing necessary information like directions, live timings, and opening hours, it serve as a digital encyclopedia of hawker centres for users to easily browse through. It brings all hawker centre information into one single platform for effortless browsing.

It is a known fact that plastic is one of the biggest contributors to waste. 79% of plastic waste is sent to landfills or the ocean, while only 9% is recycled, and 12% gets incinerated. Food and beverages are the largest group to plastic pollution, accounting 31.14% of the plastic pollution. The main reason for being the largest group is that it uses the most amount of single-use plastics for it’s packaging.

‘Rebirth’ is a recyclable packaging. As we all know, most packaging is discarded, after one time use, rather than recycled or reused. This causes harmful impacts on our environment and, I would like to design a packaging that can have a second life to be reused. I chose to focus on organic vegetables as they are very delicate and need to be protected and also allow consumers to view the product. Rebirth’s packaging can protect the vegetables while conserving the environment.

Gardening has been a growing trend since the pandemic. This could be because they want access to fresh food or just bored. A new wave of first-timer gardeners has sprouted up and they are looking for tips, techniques and advice. Gardening can be overwhelming to beginners because there are so many factors to consider when growing a garden.

Our plant sensor is connected to our Eden’s Garden application. It collects your plant’s data and allows you to keep track of your plants.
In case you are unsure about what to do to help your plants, you can use our application to search for enquiries. Additionally, we have created a community in the application and everyone gets to interact with each other, helping everyone to grow more plants.
App Prototype
Eden’s Garden Sensor is a fun, trendy and effective sensor. It senses the environment’s temperature, humidity and light intensity. This should show you whether your plants are placed at the suitable location. It also senses the soil’s moisture level and fertility. If the levels are low, we will remind you to water your plants.

Circular Economy
A circular economy focuses on reducing wastage and pollution with repair, reuse and reduction. In addition, it also emphasizes restoring natural systems while creating conditions for supporting regeneration.
Project Brief
This project focuses on upcycling old furnitures and creating new furnitures. I was taskes to design a furnishing object with the upcycled materials. The furniture should be able to put up for sale and be purposeful.
Target Audience
• Father that wants to spend more time with his son
• Son that love snacks and wants to play his game
How might we make the father and son bond in the living room?
SnackBuddy is a storage for your snacks and potato chips. Craving for some chips? Open up your SnackBuddy and take your desired snacks to chomp on. No more wasting time searching for snacks in your pantry that is located in the kitchen. With SnackBuddy, you can pull it towards you while sitting on your sofa.

Youth’s Mental Health
About one in three youths in Singapore experience mental health symptoms such as sadness, anxiety and loneliness. 68% of youths with mental illness do not speak out.
Possible Causes of Mental Illness in Youths

UI/UX DESIGN
Solution
Releaf is a non-profit organisation that wants to provide better care and support for youths in Singapore. Their mission is to provide the relevant treatments for youths and knowledge on mental health literacy. Releaf’s vision is for all Singaporean youths to get the mental support they need.

Website Prototype
Releaf organises physical workshops educating youths on mental health literacy, stress management and seeking help. The website includes the workshop’s information such as the content, venue and time.
The volunteer page shows what you can do as a volunteer for us or Campus PSY and they will be trained by Campus PSY.
Releaf also provides online consultation for both individual and family. The forum, HealingChat, is where people can share their experience or ask questions. Releaf has a chat bot, Algerna, that helps users navigate the site.

Isolation
During the start of the pandemic, most of us were cooped in our rooms either experiencing working from home or home based learning. Since most people were deprived of human interaction, they had to try finding new activities to keep themselves preoccupied in their rooms.
Small Business
With many people turnt to crafting at home during isolation, most of them took the opportunity to create small businesses. Having a clean and organised table is also very important for them during their crafting.

To make cleaning easier and faster for small business owners while entertaining them.

RoboCat is a companion robot that cleans table. It vacuums, mops and interacts with users. It connects to an application so users can set schedules for cleaning and allows users to control RoboCat with voice activation.
RoboCat
RoboCat’s application has a mood tracker for users to track their mood. The homepage is for users to start a cleaning schedule and it lets them see the battery, water level and trash level. The calendar page allows users to set future schdule for cleaning so that Robocat can instantly clean the user’s table after they are done with crafting.

Bio Bike
The project’s objectives is to create something unique for the mass market and prestige market. I decided to focus on making a abstract bike.
The Bio Bike infographic shows the material used for the different parts of the bike. This infographic is for the prestige market.
Cat Sofa
Cat Sofa is for users with pet cats, it allows them to be ablke to relax on the sofa with their cats. The bottom of the sofa is a maze for the cats to explore.

SecureTouch is a TV Set-up Box that has its own controller. The TV Set-Up has to be installed ion the Smart TV and the controller would be connected to the TV. It has an enhanced IOT security using fingerprint biometrics.

SecureTouch targets family and allows them to create accounts. Each accounts get to select genres they like so that their recommendations are suited for them. All streaming platforms would be logged in to their account if they are logged in. Restricted content would only be accessed to the owner, which needs their fingerprint.
