THE ANCHOR
Writing Our Catholic Faith
Our elementary students use Universal Publishing’s "Writing Our Catholic Faith" books for handwriting. Cursive writing improves finger dexterity and tactile control, creates multiple layers of understanding for words and letters, and helps students to view words as a connected whole. They practice using Catholic words and verses, meaning while they are practicing forming letters correctly, they are forming their faith as well!

Journeys Reading Program
Our Lady of the Lakes follows the Archdiocese of Detroit's curriculum by proudly integrating the Journeys Reading Program in each of our K-6 classrooms. This immersive program engages students in deep and engaging Language Arts lessons, meeting the needs of each and every one of our students. This series follows our elementary students year by year, providing consistency and challenges every step of the way.
"The Journeys Program works wonders! It's a rigorous series that incorporates reading, spelling, grammar, and writing all in one. Students read engaging stories while learning to analyze, interpret, and synthesize various text structures", Mrs. Horaney, 3rd Grade Teacher.

Spanish
Una idioma nueva es una vida nueva - A new language is new a life
Our Lady of the Lakes teaches Spanish language to students as young as kindergarten. Students are immersed in the language, music, and visual arts of this rich culture. Mrs. Sawicki, who has been teaching at OLL for 9 years, says that she “Finds the language to be beautiful when spoken and fun to listen to...I love being a part of the growing and learning process in children when it comes to education. Teaching world language is an important part of our students' lives because it helps them to problem solve, better their cognitive abilities, gives them a head start for college requirements, and increases the students' understanding of other cultures connecting them with those that speak different languages.” Mrs. Sawicki is just one of our many amazing “specials” teachers, who help our Lakers to experience all that the world has to offer.

Christian Service is a requirement for Our Lady of the Lakes students and is intended to be a ministry to reach out into our community to offer time and assistance. These efforts help our students grow spiritually as they increase their sense of compassion for others. Extensive outreach and service projects include food, toy and blood drives as well as working in nursing homes, food banks or within our parish community.

Name a Space at Lakes
Something new and unique is coming to Our Lady of the Lakes High School in 2021-2022. We believe our students can be more and that they should be given the tools to choose their own pathway to excellence. Because of this we are starting campus improvements and renovations this Summer. These renovations will help to shape an ideal learning atmosphere for our students. Naming opportunities begin at $10,000 with a one-time donation or a two-year pledge. Recognition on a specific area is non -exclusive; up to four donors may have recognition on a single space.
For more information about naming the new OLL High School Collaboration Center, please contact our Advancement Office 248-623-0340 x 3 or email advancement@ollonline.org.

Vision Statement: We are student-centered and seek to foster self-advocacy in our learners. Lakers, as a community in faith, are mutually committed to growth towards service and academics, college and real-world readiness. We provide opportunities to our students that will prepare them to network, engage in problem solving, and advance with confidence in any area of their choosing.
