In September of 1948, the late Edward Cardinal Mooney, realized the need for a new parish in the rapidly growing area to the north and west of Pontiac. He appointed Rev. Frederick J. Delaney to start a parish in this vicinity. The area was so vast that two parishes were started, one at Oxbow Lake and the other in Waterford. The one in Waterford enclosing a virtual “Land of Lakes”, was dedicated to Our Lady of the Lakes.

On October 28, 1956, ground was broken for a new grade school on the church property of Our Lady of the Lakes Parish in Waterford. Two years later, our first classes began with grades 5-8. Each year we added a new upper grade until the High School was complete. In June of 1962, our first graduating class celebrated commencements.

By 1985, our community had grown so much, we outgrew our current church building and ground was broken for a new church to be built on the property. Our school, too, grew to the point it became necessary to add four classrooms, a common area and a second gymnasium. These new additions were opened during the 1992 school year.

Today, Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic School continues to demonstrate a commitment to shaping the future by providing an education focused on skills necessary for the 21st century.
