As another academic year comes to an end, I am filled with profound gratitude for the unwavering dedication and tireless efforts of our exceptional staff and the steadfast support of our esteemed governing body and parents.
Our school’s success is a testament to the collective commitment and hard work of each and every member of our staff.
From the classroom to the administrative offices, from the corridors to your passion for education and your devotion to our learners shine brightly every day.
I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our governing body for their invaluable guidance, support, and advocacy.
Your dynamic vision and commitment to excellence have played a pivotal role in shaping the direction of our school and enabling us to provide a nurturing and enriching environment for our learners to thrive.
I am continually amazed by our learners whose willingness to embrace new challenges and the ability to persevere in the face of adversity.
Whether you were tackling complex equations, exploring the wonders of science, or delving into the intricacies of literature, your passion for learning has been evident in everything you do.
To the Grade 7 learners remember, learning is a lifelong journey, and I have no doubt that each of you will continue to achieve great things in the years to come.
Wherever your path may lead you, know that you will always carry with you the knowledge, skills, and memories that you have gained during your time at Penzance Primary.
Thank you for being the driving force behind our school’s success, we thank you for inspiring us all with your passion for learning and your boundless enthusiasm for life.
Mr HJH Havemann
The sturdy brick walls and lonely corridors will speak the name of a Gentleman.
One whose affirming broad smile and dancing eyes met the gaze of the brand new child, dissipating all fear and tearfulness.
Along these corridors, you walked erect, respect was given and warmth received.
Your familiar cologne still lingers
A fusion of dashing style and a bright mind never to fade from the memory of those who cherish the love you gave.
Colin
By Mrs. Pyoos
She walks on court, in the noon day sun, Racket in hand, a smile for everyone. And before we know it, she has hit an ace. First serve, no response, opponent outpaced. She’ s crouched at the net, ready to pounce, she makes a volley, not allowing the ball to bounce, As she serves for the match, it’s another win, Our darling Viv, our heroine.
The courts are her first love, then there’s the Ice, Toe Loop, Edge jumps an Axel adds some spice. Her fingers on the piano, it’s Mozart and Bach, with eyes closed this maestro has a masterful touch.
A master in the classroom, So perceptive and concise. Knowledge of her learners lead to comments so precise. A brilliant mind, very well read, provoking questions, that always led to debates and discussions, real food for thought, her keen insight and swift retort.
Fiery responses, on some occasion, she made her point without persuasion. Never gossiped nor discussed, she is one who you can trust.
Sometimes a dreamer and non-pulsed, kept her poise, and never rushed, her own drumbeat she listened to, a bit of a rebel, always on cue.
Always up for a bit of fun, staffroom pranks on anyone, she brought her smile and laughed out loud, we ducked and we dived, no hiding allowed.
For all the ways, you’ve brought such joy, the dreams you’ve ignited in every girl and boy, your wisdom and kindness, your genuine care, we are ever so grateful that you’ve always been there.
Thank you Vivvy, for 40 productive years, of service and love to learners and peers. For your heart of compassion and the hope that you gave. God bless you and keep you, you a wonder He has made.
With deep gratitude and love for making the world a better place.
Farewell Viv.
By Mrs. S Pyoos
At the end of the 2nd term in 2023, we had to say farewell to Mr Minnaar. Mr Minnaar relocated to Gauteng with his wife. We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to Mr Minnaar for the incredible impact he’s had on our lives. He was not only a dedicated teacher but also an inspiring rugby coach. His passion for teaching and coaching has ignited a love for learning and sports in all of us. We will miss Mr Minnaar’s presence at Penzance. Farewell and best wishes!
We would like to take this opportunity to wish Mrs. Smit all the best for her family’s new venture in Johannesburg. Mrs. Smit joined the Penzance family in 2017 and immediately became an integral staff member, as an Afrikaans specialist and as the MIC of Netball. In 2018 she was elected as the President of Durban Central Netball. Her passion for netball allowed the sport to grow tremendously at Penzance over the past six years. She is admired and respected by both the learners and the staff for her dedication and commitment in all aspects of school life. You will be sorely missed by your Penzance family, Mrs. Smit!
