FAN PLANT BUILDING

ASSOCIATE WITH

This proposal is for a new building located on west 39th street between 10th & 11th avenues. The project is adjacent to block 6 of the planned bella abzug park system in the special hudson yards zoning district. The planned parks will span over and enclose the existing amtrak empire line and create a new tunnel condition encosing the track below. To proceed with the park development, updates are required to ensure safety at the rail line. The proposed project will house an emergency ventilation fan plant to serve the underground rail line at blocks 5 & 6. The proposed emergency ventilation system allows for continued safe operation of the rail line.

LAND PORT OF ENTRY

The purpose of this project is to design a new entrance for the land port entry as well as an office building and office staff apartments. The project is located on the border of the United States and Canada. The snowfall and underground water flow problems faced in high latitude areas are the main considerations and solutions for this project.

COMPLEX IN OSLO

This project is located in an interesting where is full of art. The main proposal is to pursue the dialogue with the context by creating two different spatial characters. Most of the building is a dormitory which includes compact but functional units and various common spaces. Meanwhile, the building is also pursuing a more flexible commercial space on the ground floor that can cooperate with the urban space.

In this design, I use a physical model to experiment and explore the scale relationship between public space and private living space in a mix-used building. I try to create as large and rich common space as possible in this design. This is also my vision of future human settlements, especially collective life.

In order to enhance the dialogue between the building and the surrounding historical buildings, similar colors and geometric elements were used. The clean and simple grid of the building facade is used to echo the regular geometry of the historic building, and the red curtains are used to echo the color of the bricks.

INTERNATIONAL HOUSING

In St. Louis, almost every apartment has a fire stair behind it. These stairs come in a variety of forms, mostly steel. These small spaces are not completely abandoned on weekdays. Some of them have become outdoor storage spaces, some have become barbecue platforms, and some have become another kind of balcony. In short, they have become a special common space in daily life. So in my conception, I hope to further expand these spaces and make it a special place for neighbors to communicate.

This design is an exploration of the transformation of the classical apartment plan in St.Louis. By reshaping the back staircases to form a new communal space of the apartment., The entry form to each unit creates a new circulation that is different from the classical one and provides more possibilities for how the room can be used. The design of the unit plan aims to fully use the environmental resources, the view of the park on the south-eastern, and the sunlight. The brick facade and rotated volumes represent a dialogue with the context and the history of the neighborhood.

I selects five divorced parents and five of their own children as the imagined inhabitants. As divorce rates climb up in recent years, it is undoubted that this mode of living has become more common, especially in developed countries. A great number of children are deprived of necessary companionship. The single-parents, on the other hand, face the increasingly huge pressure of raising their children on their own. Drawn from this context, the design focuses on companionship, autonomy, and communication, and proposes an architecture with two separate spaces neighboring each other, yet each follows a distinct axial direction.

The design of the building’s facade is derived from the most classic red brick apartments in St. Louis. The style of these apartments comes from France, which is the architectural style inherited from the French occupation area. The project is also located in the former French neighborhood, so red brick is the main material to echo and inherit the local history and culture. The balcony part is made of steel, and combined with the design of shutters, the facade and transparency ensure privacy.

LIVING ON THE HILL

This project is a house located in Columbia at a high altitude and the terrain is steep and complex. Therefore this design is focused on creating a more effective passive house to adapt to the weather conditions by using adobe walls and other local materials. Considering the environmental conditions, this house is facing in a specific direction and the roofs are in a specific form to gain maximum sunlight. Moreover, this design not only processes the building but also applies many methods to process the topography and consider the water management. In this project, the use of materials and structures remained constant themes. By combining local actual conditions and methods to solve environmental problems, the entire building is designed with a structural system dominated by rammed earth, wood, and stone.
