About HLD

The High School Leadership Development Program (HLD) in Kenya has a rich and impactful history deeply rooted in the vision and mission of our parent organization, the African Youth Leadership Forum (AYLF) Kenya, and its predecessor, Cornerstone Development Africa.

Cornerstone Development Africa has been a stalwart in youth leadership development across the Eastern African region for over four decades. It all began with the establishment of leadership academies in various East African countries, including Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, South Sudan, and more recently, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). These academies were dedicated to providing students with a holistic education that encompassed rigorous academic curriculum alongside a Christ-centered leadership development program.

However, recognizing the need to broaden access to leadership development opportunities beyond the confines of formal academies, the High School Leadership Development Program (HLD) was born. This program aimed to democratize leadership development, allowing more students from diverse backgrounds to interact, learn, and grow as leaders.

HLD's journey in Kenya commenced as an extension of the program's success in Uganda. With the support and guidance of AYLF Kenya, HLD embarked on its mission to empower high school students across Kenya. In our inaugural year, we laid the foundation for what has become a thriving platform for leadership development.

Since our inception, HLD Kenya has rapidly expanded its reach, partnering with over 15 high schools across the country in just our second year of operation. Our program has evolved to provide students with not only leadership skills but also a sense of community, mentorship, and personal growth.

As we look to the future, HLD Kenya remains committed to its founding principles of inclusivity, empowerment, and excellence. We aspire to continue expanding our footprint across Kenya, reaching even more high school students and equipping them with the tools they need to become impactful leaders in their communities and beyond.

The history of HLD Kenya is a testament to the transformative power of leadership development and the unwavering dedication of our team and partners to nurturing the next generation of leaders in Kenya.
