2021 - Year for Hope New Year’s Message: Mr Kirit Patel, chairman and CEO of Motibhai Group
W
e are right into the beginning of 2021 to welcome the new year with the hope that it brings us happiness, good health and a sense of fulfilment in whatever we do. Though we are into another brand new year, perhaps we should take time out to reflect on the year that was. 2020 will be remembered for many reasons; reasons that have tested the very fabric of our society, our families, our professions and our livelihoods. For all of us, regardless of where you are in the world, COVID-19 has been incredibly difficult and essentially changed the way we live. The year 2020 has been an emotionally charged one from COVID-19 hitting our shores to the severe havoc that the recent Tropical Cyclone Yasa wreaked on the Northern communities of our beloved Fiji. No doubt the new “new norm” has now become business as usual and managing risks an absolute necessity. We cannot be complacent but need to be agile. Now that we have entered into 2021, I remind all of us of a very appropriate and relevant quote by the famous French writer Alexandre Dumas in 1872 and I quote: “All human wisdom is summed up into two words; WAIT and HOPE,” unquote. This Coronavirus has taught us to WAIT for a vaccine to be found and HOPE an effective
vaccine will be applied worldwide so that we can all enjoy life and living freely without fear. The challenges brought on us by Cyclone Yasa on our islands has pelted us down again with unprecedented fury. And no Fijian who witnessed its impact will ever forget the experience. I ask that we spare a thought for our sisters and brothers who have lost loved ones during the year, and or may have spent
their Christmas and New Year in temporary shelters with their families as they try to rebuild their homes that were devastated by TC Yasa. Let us hope the New Year is just that — new, and not a rerun of 2020. Although we cannot forecast what is in store for us in the New Year, we certainly can place trust in God Almighty for His guidance, protection and providence. The whole world will definitely look forward to
2021, hoping for renewal, praying that somehow, things will get better. Let’s pray and hope that this new year becomes a watershed year when we will see the last of this awful virus and also overcome the challenges brought by Cyclone Yasa on Fijians. Whilst no one can predict when the world will return to some sense of normalcy, it’s important to look forward to the future with hope as hope drives people. It is the reason many of us will greet 2021 with enthusiasm. We are more determined to make 2021 a year of new possibilities! Motibhai Group turns 90 this year, and as we reflect, we remind ourselves that our purpose is bigger and it is important and necessary in times such as these for us to continue to develop and enhance our services to people and Fiji as nation. Our 90-years of success goes to the commitment to our vision, mission, and values with our executives and staff always at the forefront and the core purpose of our existence. May God bless each and every one of us. And may he continue to bless our beloved Fiji. I, together with our executives, senior management team and the Motibhai Group family thank all our customers, suppliers and all the stakeholders for all your support in 2020 and we wish you and your family a happy, healthy, safe and rewarding 2021.
