Men's Health Month Let’s face it, men and women are different in many ways, including their nutritional needs. Men need a variety of nutrients that help to maintain muscle mass and prevent heart disease and cancer, which are the number one and two killers for men over the age of 35. A healthy diet and some key supplements is a great start to living a longer, healthier life. Here is a short list to get you started: • Blueberries: Blueberries contain a high amount of antioxidants to help battle inflammation, which can decrease the risk of heart attack. Try for a cup a day in a smoothie, or on top of yogurt or granola.

• Nuts: Nuts contain heart-healthy fats, protein, and fiber. Snack on unsalted raw nuts, nut mixes, and nut butters to improve your heart health.

• Magnesium: Magnesium is one of the most important minerals in your body that helps to regulate everything from metabolism and sleep cycles to blood pressure. More than 70-80 percent of the population is deficient in magnesium.

• Vitamin D: There is a lot of research that links vitamin D deficiency to a heightened risk of heart disease and cancer. Vitamin D bolsters your immune system and helps uptake calcium, which helps to prevent bone loss, which can begin in your thirties.

Protect Yourself, Protect Others Learn to Create a DIY Cloth Face Covering Since the onset of COVID-19, Mazopiya has been taking precautionary safety measures to help prevent the spread of the virus. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends wearing cloth face coverings in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain. Although face coverings are not required to enter the store, consider wearing one to protect yourself and other shoppers. Below are the steps to create your own mask according to the CDC. HOW TO MAKE YOUR OWN MASK:

• 20-inch square cotton cloth (or bandana)

1. Fold cloth in half.

• Two rubber bands (or hair ties)

3. Place bands around folded cloth, about six inches apart.

2. Fold top third of cloth down. Fold bottom third of cloth up.

• Scissors (if you are cutting your own cloth)

4. Fold sides of the cloth toward the middle and tuck.

5. Place bands around ears, securing completed cloth face covering over mouth and nose.

Cloth masks should be washed daily or after every extended use.

Homemade Meatballs

Quick, easy, and delicious! These meatballs are a perfect addition to a dish or served as an appetizer.

INGREDIENTS: • • • • • • • • •

1 ½ cups breadcrumbs 1 tablespoon oregano 1 teaspoon ground pepper 3 eggs 2 teaspoons fresh garlic, minced 1 teaspoon salt 2 teaspoons granulated onion ½ cup Parmesan, grated 2 pounds ground bison or grass-fed beef

JUNE CLASSES

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Blend all ingredients together in a large bowl and roll into 1 ½ inch balls.

2. Bake meatballs on a baking sheet for 15-20 minutes or until firm and cooked through.

3. Remove meatballs from the oven and place in a slow cooker with your favorite barbecue sauce or serve with a red sauce and pasta.
