Healthy Heart Month Having a healthy diet and lifestyle are your best weapons to ward off heart disease. Two key components of a heart-healthy regimen are a diet rich in fruit and vegetables and consistent exercise. The American Heart Association recommends 40 minutes of moderate to vigorous aerobic exercise 3-4 times a week. If finding the time to exercise is difficult for your busy schedule, try aiming for 10-minute mini sessions throughout the week. In terms of diet, try to eat foods in their most natural state as possible—that means staying away from processed packaged foods, which contain a lot of toxic chemicals, added sugars, and unhealthy fats. DIY CORNER Soothing Rose Petal Bath Soak Whether you celebrate Valentine’s or “Galentine’s” Day, this relaxing bath soak is perfect for some at-home primping and pampering.

Ingredients:

1 cup powdered milk ¾ cup Epsom salt ¼ cup dried rose petals 5-10 drops rosehip oil (optional)

Instructions:

Combine all ingredients together in a medium-size mixing bowl. Add mixture to a small jar or similar airtight container. To use, mix 2-3 tablespoons with bath water—and cue the relaxation!

Homemade Chocolate Bark

This chocolatey, decadent dessert is perfect for an on-the-go snack or an after-dinner sweet treat.

INGREDIENTS: • • • • •

10 ounces semisweet chocolate chunks ¼ teaspoon cardamom 1-2 tablespoons dried rose petals 2 tablespoons pink peppercorns 2 tablespoons pistachios, chopped

INSTRUCTIONS: Melt chocolate over double boiler until completely melted. Stir in cardamom. Pour mixture onto a greased cookie sheet and spread. Top with rose petals, peppercorns, and pistachios. Freeze until set.

Remove and break into pieces. Store in refrigerator.
